Shrapnel,

I can provide a save game if needed.

Playing a Long Campaign between
Nationalist China (human) vs Chines Communists

Visibility is 2

Notice my units farther than 2 hexes away can see unit even though visibility is 2.

Units that fire indirect can be detected by your counter-battery organisation. Nothing new there, this has been the case since SP1 came out.

If you can direct fire at the detected unit with your weapons (other than Z fire blind area fires) from over 2 hexes distance - then that would be a bug.

cheers

Mobhack,

Are you saying the unit appearing is not a bug?

I would have thought the unit would not be seen,
with my units knowing exact location, now I can just drive up and
overrun.

Makes it quite easy to counter batter fire also and hit on board artillery if exact locations given away when visibility 2.

I would have thought visibility wise, units not in any units LOS would be hidden.

As I said - indirect fire units will become located and no LOS is required, its flash or sound location equipment in your counter battery organisation etc.

And you can see the smoke puffs of unlocated firers as well and pound those. The AI does the same.

It applies to yours as well, so remember to shift your on map arty from time to time unless you like getting counter-battery fire.

This is not a bug - its an inbuilt feature of all SP series games.

Ok, now that makes more sense.

Thx, I agree if that is how it works, then it is not a bug.

Good forward thinking on that one, this game gets better and better as I learn.

I remember reading from With Our Backs To Berlin, some remnants of ragtag German soldiers who had no experience in battle, with some Hitlerjugends, shelling a Soviet column with a few mortar tubes. Finished doing that and they went smoking cigarettes and chat around. Just a few minutes later, swooshing sounds came overhead without any gun sound (off-boards large caliber). Before they knew it they were decimated to bits and pieces of human flesh.

And this happened in the Berlin city area, where buildings would severely obstruct LOS. Forward observers and artillerymen (and commanders too) are certainly trained to "triangulate" these out-of-los artillery positions.
