Inspired by MarkSheppard and others, and egged on by a close friend and forum lurker; I have decided to share some Icons (and associated pictures) that I have created.

These were all originally done for my own use and/or amusement and I make no claims to be any good at this! I just have the time and inclination that others may not have. Many are variations of existing stuff by Don and others.

Feel free to take and use any that grab your fancy, some have been on the boards before this is just to put them all in one place.

Feedback is welcomed :)

UPDATE: Apologies for Photobucket broken links (I am sure you are all aware of them trying to monetise everything) Download links still work and I will NOT use Photobucket from now on!

Next up some "window dressing" - a parked jetliner. For modern airport and anti-terrorist scenarios.

Time for a couple of iconic vehicles from the TV screens of my youth and "The Troubles".

A Saracen "Kremlin" - the long serving APC with "cage" armour and bull bars for "crowd control".

and the much hated, by users and opponents alike, Land Rover Hotspur / Tangi:

The zip file includes icons and .bmp pictures for both vehicles and a bonus image for your "riot" control soldiers.

From listening to tales about the Radfan and Aden campaigns from my father, I had to do a desert camo, Heavy Truck version of the ubiquitous "Stolly". (It seems when he wasnt swimming in the Gulf of Aden and having a ball, he was being shot at in a Stalwart or Blackburn Beverley!)

You've helped me out a couple of times and that has been appreciated very, very much! I wish I had your skill level where image changes and icon improvements are concerned. I know the community of Steel Panthers, particularly gamers like me who depend on others such as yourself to provide enhancements to the existing game benefit from your time and effort. Thank you!:D

Scorpio: I really enjoyed the Roundels with my base MBT game. At some point you might have to think about cooking up a compatible set for the Das Reich mod maybe. :smirk: Like you don't already do enough!

Thanks guys!

@paderborn - kind words but I really have little skill, just an abundance of spare time! The icon work of people like RecruitMonty, PlasmaCrab, Oragus, Pierre, Cross, mkr8683 and Rosollia make my efforts look poor (shame some of these gentlemen are no longer active here).

@wiking - If RecruitMonty (or others) wants me to do a version of the small flags and/or the roundel mod, I would be happy to. My guess is that he would probably do a better job than me and if he wanted it then it would already exist.

@ Suhiir - I believe RecruitMonty has an appropriate icon (or needs only a little adjustment) in his Das Reich mod.

I have modified it for my own use (hauling a std 20' container) - let me ask if he minds me adding it here or whether he would like to do it himself.

Quick attempt at the Logistics Vehicle System Replacement (LVSR):

No top down views I could find! and the USMC seem to use a million different variants!
Here are some best guesses (especially the "naked" version - a TCU covers a variety of sins :p-), hope they will do.
If anyone (Suhiir?) wants adjustments please let me know.

With Standard 20' Container (TCU):

Actually the TCU and Tank Transport versions are all that are probably needed as it's a cargo hauler.
Maybe color (cammo) the container would be about all I'd ask.

Picking up a new thumb drive tomorrow to load the large number of
detailed and well-executed LSVR icons onto. Some LBM images, too. We're moving to Florida from the winter-wonderland state of Michigan and I'll be out of action during the four months our Florida house is being built. Around November of this year we'll unpack all of our earthly possessions including [at last!] my game computer! It will be a long, cold four months cut off from one of my favorite activities. As always, thank you scorpio_rocks for all of your effort and hard work. I, we-all benefit.:)

Now if you're still feeling ambitious/generous I've long wanted variants on Icon#147/327 (jeep) and Icon#209/262 (unarmored HMMWV) with a 2-wheel trailer (example Icon#670).

I don't know about the other services but commonly each USMC Rifle Company has at least one jeep/HMMWV with a trailer that acts as an ammo resupply vehicle for it's platoons' small arms(would carry an ammo crate).

A few things that I did for my own benefit in a riverine campaign with the USMC in Vietnam. I realise that very few will use them but for those few:

Some more stuff with probably very limited appeal, sorry - some "convoy" stuff.

First up a Barge Carrier based on the USMC LSVR / US HEMTT (to "complete" the "set" lol):

http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb192/scorpio_rocks/LVS%20barge%20carrier_zpsy6gjiih9.png

I can't be the only person to do "convoy" style scenarios (can I?) so a Gun Truck is always a welcome addition!

http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb192/scorpio_rocks/M985%20HEMTT%20Cargo%20gun%20truck_zpsvnyvt9ys.jpg

The M985 HEMTT armoured "Gun Truck":

Last, for now, the C-RAM Centurion land based CIWS:

http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb192/scorpio_rocks/Centurion%20C-RAM_zpseu5qexcp.png

Attached, as usual, .Zip file contains 3 icon .bmp, .Lbm of gun truck.

Sorry for the double post! Timed out on editing.

Here are the aforementioned transports I am interested in using in the mod. What do you think of the spread?

There are some nice support designs (gunboats), which can also be used as riverine support craft for jungle type scenarios (trips up the Congo river etc).

Perhaps we could come up with a projection for a 1960s MFP (both transport and gunboat) that could then be used to replace the earlier models as they come off as a bit antiquated by 1960.

Although the Germans had pure infantry transports (Infanterieboote, Sturmboote etc) I feel that they don't really cut the mustard for an amphibious landing. They also come off as rather antiquated designs.

As I see it we can go down two routes. Either we stick to the MFP Type D as an all around transporter with the Einheitslandungsboot (ELB) as a lighter alternative until 1960 - thereafter just an MFP derivative, or we can create a dedicated infantry transporter along the lines of the Pionierlandungsboot and use the MFP and ELB for tanks, trucks etc.

What would you say?

Here are links to reference material for each listed vessel. A size comparison between the MFP and ELB is provided at the bottom of the list.

If you're still feeling inspired I have (what I hope is) an easy request.

Currently there are no camouflage pattern icons for the AAV-7 (default icon 3600) and the AAVE-7 (default icon 459).
The pattern from icon 3215 would work just fine.

Thank you.

Surprisingly to the best of my knowledge the vehicle never got a nickname, like for instance the A-10 being called the "Warthog". Closest I've ever heard was them referred to as "P7's", "C7", or "R7" based on the variant.

I can't be the only person to do "convoy" style scenarios (can I?) so a Gun Truck is always a welcome addition!

Actually I'm working s-l-o-w-l-y on a campaign that centers around a convoy making it's way from Bagdad to the coast in the wake of an ISIS coup.

Scenario #1: Bagdad; rescue and collect various allied embassy staff and civilians, mount up your vehicles (you start with crews in garrison), get the hell off the map before you're cut off or overwhelmed by the mob. Since there's no way to give units a negative point value you "win" the scenario by losing, because if you slaughter essentially unarmed civilian protesters you get your picture in the news ... and not in a good way. Actually armed opposition units have their point value set to zero so you don't lose points killing them.

Scenario #2: Iraqi military base; part of your CORE force is involved with training with Iraqi units, one reason ISIS staged the coup now, your command is split. A chaotic free-for-all as loyal and disloyal units are scattered all over the place. Try to salvage as many loyal Iraqi units as possible to expand your CORE and of course get yourself USMC units off the map with minimal losses.

Scenario #3: Bagdag airport: the final part of your CORE is at the airport with your aircraft and helos. Hold off the assault as the rest of your CORE (that survived scenarios #1 and #2) race to the rescue.

Scenario #4: Highway to Hell: Get your convoy across the map intact.

Scenario #5: Bloody River: You need at least one bridge intact as tanks and trucks don't float and you have no bridging equipment. Or abandon them ?!?

Scenario #6: Highway to Hell Part 2: More ambushes on your convoy.

Scenario #7: Rearguard: Your previous battles have allowed a sizable opposition force to catch up to your convoy, "enjoy" a rearguard action!

Scenario #8: Grind Them Beneath our Treads: ISIS acquired a LOT of Iraqi armor, and everyone knows the USMC has all of four tanks (minus any lost in previous scenarios). Can your depleted battalion survive an armored brigade assault?

Scenario #9: Homecoming: The port is in sight! Use aircraft and naval artillery to break contact and get your convoy to safety.

DRG,

Been going to ask. Are the LSVR and HUMMWV with a trailer icons going to be included in the 2016 patch?

I've been working on a SP Icon Database once again, and I took the time to add to PlasmaKrab's old M8 Buford AGS set by:

Adding a Winter Icon for it.

Adding a Level 3 Armor Icon Set for it (Level II Armor is pretty much indistinguishable from Level I at the scale of SP Icons)

Doing good LBMs for all three levels of armor (I/II/III).

Next thing:

Calculate protection from known constraints (size of vehicle and mass/performance levels)

Level I against splinters (18,052 kg combat weight) -- base aluminium armor

Level II against armor piercing small arms and small cannon fire (20,820 kg combat weight) -- titanium applique plates.

Level III against cannon up to 30mm (23,586 kg combat weight) -- ERA + Spaced Armor Modules?

A long time ago, someone (I didn't save who), did a mod of the XM-60 Silaceous Cored Armor prototype.

Recently a declassified paper on it has shown up on DTIC here:

http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/524050.pdf

And it includes results of test firings.

I am just curious. I lost all of my work that I have done over the years and have been trying to track some of it down that I may have posted. I have gotten most I have posted here already, but I know there are more out there. The PC and external hard drive back up I had both have failed. I don't have $1200 to get the PC hard drive and/or external hard drive repaired and data extracted from it right now. I remember I thought it was Mark that had a site that I posted on as well back in the day. That was why I was asking.

Ah sorry - I misunderstood.

Yes I believe Mark(Sheppard) does have a site still and it is available (here:http://www.alternatewars.com/Games/SP/SPanthers.htm)

Unsure how much of the Icon database still exists - I know he was trying /thinking of resurrecting it.

No worries. Thank you.

The database was similar to Wikipedia. Any one could contribute. I remember seeing a Panther with a 75L100 main gun on there. It was developing nicely.

Just like if anyone can still access the old Yahoo groups, can you point me to those. I have tried what I remember and no luck logging in. I know there are icons on there too.

:(

What specifically is the problem? Describe it in as much detail as you can possible.

I remember I thought it was Mark that had a site that I posted on as well back in the day. That was why I was asking.

Yeah, I tried a wiki-based icon database for a bit -- I eventually deleted it from my website, because I didn't secure it well enough and spammers were using it to post porn and other unsavory things on it; and I went "YIKES" and nuked it.

I have a lot of stuff saved though. Let me start an Oragus thread.

About a year ago, I went on a deep trawl of the surviving Yahoo groups I had access to, and saved what I could.

Well, if you want a good laugh, here you go. Here is how the PC crashed. I was cleaning the dust out of the CPU fans and cooling fins. Being a Dad of 3 girls, I got called away for a minute. Came back and caught my dog peeing in my open case and he fried the whole thing! I tried salvaging what I could, but the HDs wouldn't work when I connected them to my replacement PC.

My external HD, shortly after that incident stopped working. I took it in to get fixed and I was informed the internal components failed and it would need to be rebuilt so it would spin the disc for data extraction. $1200 price tag!

Don't laugh. It almost happened to me, thanks to once again, Dogs!

I took my dogs out for a walk, and when I got back I turned on the kitchen sink to give them some fresh water -- hot and humid outside.

I go away thinking I've turned off the water. About 20 minutes later, my roomie comes by and starts yelling at me. Turns out I didn't turn the water off. The sink had filled up and flooded over onto the kitchen floor.

I curse, get the wet\dry shop vac and start vacuuming up water. Once that's done, I go downstairs to see if any flooded down. BAD NEWS, I find that it flooded down into the basement...including my computer room.

I frantically remove everything of importance....

To make a long story short, I got really lucky and only lost

A Keyboard that had gotten dripped onto -- replaced with a spare.

Tentatively estimated casualties:

Uninterruptible Power Supply, have to assume it's bad. It was near the splash radius with an open grid for cooling on top.

SD Card Reader. Was Soaked, will not even attempt to use it anymore. as I can't risk data corruption.

My dignity -- Roomate was pissed.

Lessons for future situations:

1.) Avoid cases with open grilles on the top. While great for cooling, they can admit water from above. Nothing happened...THIS TIME. but Lesson learned for a future PC build.

2.) Backups need to be in a totally different structure. My backups, which I made two weeks ago before I went on a one week long vacation at the beach (I was afraid of someone stealing my computer while I was gone for a whole week), were located inside a drawer in the same room that was slightly flooded. I'll have to get a safe deposit box offsite at a bank for backups.
