The first contested battle involves an amphibious assault across the Suez Canal. However in the campaign notes you're advised to buy a lot of T-62's, which are not amphibious. While I've got two core platoons of mech infantry (with amphibious OT-62's) and most support units have inflatable rafts how are the tanks supposed to cross the canal? Two barge carriers are scheduled to show up on turn three but there ain't no barges, and in any event there's only 14 turns.

Are the tanks supposed to support the attack from the west side of the canal or am I missing something? Thanks.

I would say its up to you, did this a long while back. Do remember I got a few tanks over. my main worry was not losing them on the way over if I remember so took my time & used a lot of smoke.
Seem to remember you have the odd engineer who came in handy once over the Canal.

Thanks. So how did you get the tanks across? Is there an invisible ford or something? I'll have a go and see what happens. Cheers.

Move the barge carriers to the edge of the canal and unload them, a barge will appear in the water.

See the Game Guide Frequently Asked Questions section, paragraph entitled "How do I deploy a barge or raft?"

Thanks folks. You learn something new just about every day with this game. FWIW got most tanks across but most wound up as ducks at a shooting gallery. Managed a points-high draw (about 2100 to 2000) for an ignominious campaign defeat. Wish me luck for next time.
