British Naval gun support 1945-1982

British Battleship support was available until 1959.

HMS Nelson and HMS Rodney with 16 inch guns were decommissioned in 1947.

14 inch guns on four King George V class ships until 1956/57. 15 inch guns on HMS Vanguard until 1959.

8 inch gun heavy cruiser support was available until HMS Devonshire was sold off in 1954.

6 inch support was available until 1979, and, had the Falklands War lasted longer both HMS Tiger and HMS Blake were being prepared for further service from reserve in 1982. By then both these light Cruisers had two automatic 6 inch guns (plus two auto 3.5 inch guns).

You should copy this thread over to the WinSPMBT side as well for those of us that don't wander over here regularly, just a thought also based on the time-frame involved as well.

You might find this interesting as well it's the only "gun" cruiser still in active service. I'm looking into this one WinSPMBT based on actual commissioning date, though these were meant to be in service during the years of WWII.

Worth noting that in WWII British destroyers several times engaged German tanks over open sights and a 4.7 or 4.5 inch AP shell hitting a tank is going to spoil their whole day.

Equally Battleship gun fire (in the case of the RN in WWII 14, 15 or 16 inch) was noted as upending even German Tiger tanks...
