I have v8.1-CD.
Is it possible to make the buttons on the right side of the game screen be "dimmed" when they can not be applied to the currently selected unit?
In particular, the "R" Rally button would be a start because finding which units can still be rallied is not quick & easy. If the button was dimmed when a unit can't rally, then cycling through with "N" or "P" would quickly find the units with the undimmed "R" button.
Thanks!

None of the action buttons are ever disabled e.g. if there is no shots left, the Fire button and hot key still remain so. That is the way that SSI designed the game, and its been like that for quite some time. And I think that you are the first one to ask for this feature since 1998 or whatever;).
It would be a non-trivial task to make the buttons active/passive depending on all the ifs and buts for each one. Basically because that was not deigned in from the start, so adding it might not even be doable.
I might have a look at it next year. But its highly unlikely to happen since it would be at least a man-week of faffing about in the internals of the spaghetti, possibly 2 weeks.

I for one cant really see the need in most instances you let the game automatically rally when you press end turn. For the units you want to rally mid turn you normally have them selected anyway so its just a button click to find out you cant.

Thanks for the reply, Mobhack. Perhaps I like the buttons that dim because my heart lies with that "other" Steel Panthers game which I won't name here to avoid starting something. I just recently decided to give WW2 a chance and bought it to see the features in the CD version. Thanks for your continued development.
Perhaps I micromanage to a greater degree than many do. I've never been one to let a game do something automatically when I can do it myself ;)
