Lately a conversion of the BMP1 vehicle is tested by the Greek Army. It is a conversion of the original turret of the BMP-1 to a new one with twin 23mm guns. Its probable use is infantry support and maybe anti-helo. Seems liek a good replacement for the BMP-3 that will not be bought.

Interesting idea. Any update on this?

Just conducted an active search for any BMP-1 modernization efforts and the result is the following that I had already put into my APC folder that I don't think was posted in the APC Thread since this a "Tracking" issue with no orders placed since this was released in May.

I'm not sure but it seems these vehicles represent two different efforts. The Ukrainian and the Greek BMP-1 do just seem like different vehicles.

In the Greek BMP I don't see the raised rear section that is prominent on the Ukrainian vehicle. The turrets appear different as well.

If I were to purchase one or the other design, I'd favor the Ukrainian version.

Well, they do have way different turrets, to say the least. I don't know about the Ukrainian, but the Greek version appears to be a budget solution, all things considered.

Well the Greek vehicle is indeed a budget solution, using two existing pieces of equipment to make an upgrade. It is an excellent solution for the environment that it is supposed to operate (a Greek island) and limited elsewhere. In that department yes, the Ukrainian version is more versatile, but more expensive and tbh if recent wars showed us anybody is that glorified tin cans like BMPs have a short lifespan in the modern battlefield and thus it is better if you don't spend too much money on them.

BMPs were never popular outside the islands mainly because their only role is infantry support against an enemy light on mechanization (as it will be the case of an invader on an island, at least in the beginning). Given that role they have their uses, apart from that you shouldn't rely too much on them.
