I thought sharing our favorite movie quotes would be fun, and maybe in some way helpful.

So, here are my quotes:

(1)

"Captain, we've been overrun! We're pulling back! Over!"

"Goddamn it! Where are you gonna pull back to?! They're all over the perimeter! You be advised, you will hold in place and you will fight! That means you, Lieutenant! Bravo Six out."

Source: Platoon (1986, Orion Pictures)

(2)

Frank Burns: “I’m sick of hearing about the wounded. What about all the thousands of wonderful guys who are fighting this war without any of the credit or the glory that always goes to those lucky few who just happen to get shot?”

Source: Mash (1970, Film, Twentieth Century Fox)

(3)

"On my command unleash hell."
Source: Gladiator (2000, Film,DreamWorks Pictures)

From the movie A Bridge Too Far:

(1).
I've just been on to Monty. He's very proud and pleased.
Pleased?
Of course. He thinks Market Garden was 90% successful.

(2). Remember what the general said, "we're the cavalry." It would be bad form to arrive in advance of schedule. In the nick of time would do nicely.

Does it need to be a war movie?

Here's from Godfather:

(3). There are many things my father taught me here in this room. He taught me "keep your friends close... but your enemies closer"

(4). Never hate your enemies, it affects your judgment.

(5). The richest man is the one with the most powerful friends.

(6). Friends and money... oil and water.

(7).

"How much shall I pay you?"

"Bonasera, what have I ever done to make you treat me so disrespectfully? If you'd come to me in friendship, this scum who ruined your daughter would be suffering this very day. And if by some chance an honest man like yourself made enemies they would become my enemies. And then, they would fear you."

"Be my friend... Godfather."

"Good. Some day, and that day may never come, I will call upon you to do a service for me. But until that day, consider this justice a gift on my daughter's wedding day."

Hahaha :D

Dang! Forgot about this another one from A Bridge Too Far:

"Sergeant Dohun pulled a gun on me and threatened to kill me unless I did what he ordered. Lieutenant Refferty, I want you to put him under arrest."
"Yes sir!"
"I want you to keep him there. I want you to keep him there for at least 10 seconds!"
"I'm not sure I understand, sir?"
"Count to 10 Lieutenant, fast!"
"1,2,3,4,5,9,10. Like that sir?"
"Thank you Lieutenant."

Gotta get the Navy in this, especially after the whopping the University of Alabama put on the University of Kentucky football team last night, 1st October 2016:

"Capt. Ramsey: Mr. COB!

Chief of the Boat: Yes, sir?

Capt. Ramsey: You're aware of the name of this ship, aren't you Mr. COB?

Chief of the Boat: Very aware, sir!

Capt. Ramsey: It bears a proud name, doesn't it, Mr. COB?

Chief of the Boat: Very proud, sir!

Capt. Ramsey: It represents fine people.

Chief of the Boat: Very fine people, sir!

Capt. Ramsey: Who live in a fine, outstanding state.

Chief of the Boat: Outstanding, sir!

Capt. Ramsey: In the greatest country in the entire world.

Chief of the Boat: In the entire world, sir!

Capt. Ramsey: And what is that name, Mr. COB?

Chief of the Boat: Alabama, sir!

Capt. Ramsey: And what do we say?

Capt. Ramsey/Chief of the Boat: Go Bama!
All: Roll Tide!"

I just had to throw this one in there: Near the end of The Bridge Too Far movie when the Allied generals are each giving a reason why the mission failed and one of the generals says "It doesn't matter what it was, when one man says to another, what to do today? I know, lets play a war-game ... everybody dies"

Luckily now, let's play war games and let pixel soldiers die

Happens sooner or later to all of us. Might as well go out with a bang instead of a whimper. Anyway here's one of my favorites from Zulu ("You're all going to die!"--Jack Hawkins as Reverend Otto Witt):

From 'Good Kill' (2014)
Cop: "How is the war on terror going?"
Former Air Force Fighter pilot: "About as well as your war on drugs."

(Although, IMHO, in all honesty, the war on terror is going at least a little better than that, although that is not saying much).

Dead or alive, you are coming with me From the first Robocop.

From one of my favorite movies of all time too, Fountainhead (1949)
https://youtu.be/sw5YACKiPAk

Howard Roark: [delivering the closing statements of his own defense] Thousands of years ago the first man discovered how to make fire. He was probably burned at the stake he had taught his brothers to light, but he left them a gift they had not conceived of, and he lifted darkness off the earth. Through out the centuries there were men who took first steps down new roads, armed with nothing but their own vision. The great creators, the thinkers, the artists, the scientists, the inventors, stood alone against the men of their time. Every new thought was opposed. Every new invention was denounced. But the men of unborrowed vision went ahead. They fought, they suffered, and they paid - but they won.

A nice diversion this:
1. "Though we be on the far side of the world, this ship is our home. This ship is England." - Captain "Lucky" Jack Aubrey
Master and Commander - The far side of the world. Russell Crowe

2. "I know, the cooler." - The Great Escape. Steve McQueen

3. "Terminate with extreme prejudice." - To Lt. Willard concerning Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando). Apocalypse Now. Martin Sheen

4. "I will leave no man behind...dead or alive. We will all come home together." Lt. Col Hal Moore as addressed to his men and their families. - We were Soldiers. Mel Gibson

5. "Irene, Irene, Sweet Irene" - Black Hawk Down. Josh Hartnett
A code word the USA would prefer never to use again.

6. "Your highness you must be mistaken, I am but a blacksmith." - Kingdom of Heaven. Orlando Bloom.

From my all time favorites...

7. "If you build it they will come." and "Go the Distance." - Field of Dreams. Kevin Costner (I think those words drive Andy and Don every year with minor modification!?!)

8. "Run Away!!", "Neep!", "Tis but a flesh wound." and "It's only a bunny rabbit." The Holy Grail. Monty Python. :p

Pat

Yeah, Dr. Strangelove is a hoot of a movie. One of my favorites is from the B-52 commander after he dons his cowboy hat:

"Well, boys, I reckon this is it. New-q-lure combat, toe-to-toe with the Rooskies. Now look, boys. I ain't much of a hand at makin' speeches. But I got a pretty fair idea that somethin' doggoned important's going on back there. And I got a fair idea of the kind of personal emotions that some of you fellas may be thinkin'. Heck, I reckon you wouldn't even be human beins if you didn't have some pretty strong personal feelings about nuclear combat. But I want you to remember one thing - the folks back home is a countin' on ya, and by golly, we ain't about to let 'em down. Tell ya somethin' else - this thing turns out to be half as important as I figure it just might be, I'd say that you're all in line for some important promotions an' personal citations when this thing's over with. That goes for every last one of ya, regardless of your race, color, or your creed. Now, let's get this thing on the hump. We got some flyin' to do."

Unteroffizier Krüger: I stay dirty for a reason. If you've been in the field as long as I've been, you'd know why.

Ah... that video should've shown why he came about riding a darned H-Bomb!

The best thing about that movie is that Mr. President of the US, Her Majesty's British Officer, and the German scientist Dr. Strangelove, were all played by the same actor. :smirk:

General Bittrich can only sigh after that, "Flatten Arnheim..."

One of the most touching scenes in a war movie, is the Spielberg "Saving Private Ryan," the General Marshall scene, "Letter to Mrs. Bixby."

The Alien is an iconic sci fi movie franchise. One of the few films where the sequel was up to par with the first installment. In Aliens, the sequel, Bill Paxton "Pvt Hudson" (d. 26 Feb 2017) enjoyed many of the most memorable quotes.
