Recording the game

Is there any software that works recording the game, fullscreen or windowed?
FRAPS (registered) doesn't work for me, at all. The program just doesn't see? the game. I have the same issue with Strategic Command, Chris Sawyers Locomotion, etc.
I am considering getting an Avermedia game capture hd 2,though I wish I could do it with software.

You have to run the game in full screen mode with directx.

Do you have Windows 8.1 too?
