I will be off line and un-available for maybe a week. I have all the signs of a impending HDD failure and all the fun that comes with that. Been through this before and now I get to discover all the programs I've come to rely on that I just take for granted

Good lord....
Nothing beats the fun from an HDD failure.
I mean, with GPU, Processor, or Memory damage you can just buy and plug-in the new ones. But no money on earth can replace a lost data. There are some data-recovery services though, but they're talking about low-percentage success, depending on how the HDD is damaged. The price for such services is monumental though.
All the best of luck for you Don...

We'll, The computers back, I've re-established my internet connection but only barely scratched the surface of what needs to be re-installed.............now the fun really begins.... All the little settings you set up and take for granted need to be found and re-set up. I have no hair so at least I won't be ripping it out

I have felt this pain myself, having to trudge for weeks just to have every single program works correctly as before. Man....it's really mighty tedious especially with the OCD thing that I have.
Next time Don (although I haven't done this myself) you need to create an "image" of your hard-disk, so that anytime you need to reinstall Windows or formatting/replacing hard-disk, all you need to do to restore everything to status quo was simply "applying the image" back to the new hard-disk, it's very very quick and Windows has a built-in feature to do this task. Although of course, you need to have quite a lot of space (preferably in another separate HDD) to store the "image" in, since it's copying virtually everything from the old HDD, nook-cranny and free-space and all.

I now own a 2 TB WD passport that automates back-ups.
