Hi there!

I've just bought the download version of WINSPWW2 - 10.01. And, regularly, my game shut down!
My PC is:
Win10 Family - V. 1803 - OS V. 17134.472
Pro.: Intel Core I3-7100 CPU - 3.90GHz
RAM: 8GO
OS: 64B - Proc. x64
GC: Intel(R) HD Graphics 630
I've tried to use compatibility mode: Windows8.

I don't know if I can upload the V11 patch, for it upload V9 to V11. Does it work with my version which is v10.01?
Is someone has a solution? Thank you.

My computer is nearly identical as yours and it works perfectly. If you are trying to run it full screen it will do as you say "full screen" mode is left in for older computers and OS... run it windowed desktop mode

This is NOT a "bug"

If you have version v10.01 you CAN ( and should ) run the V11 patch

QUOTE: The V11 Patch updates winSPWW2 Version 9 and up to Version 11

This game does not need compatibility mode, it is very stable including alt tabing in windows mode.
I run in windows desktop mode or sometimes a smaller window size if I am monotiring work stuff.
Only issue was splash screen but I think that’s fixed now, you can disable it.

You did follow install instructions and not install in default directory?
I never use but as mentioned full screen can cause problems on some computers use window for best performance.

Thank you both of you.

@Imp: Only issue was splash screen but I think that’s fixed now, you can disable it. : What's "Splash screen" mean?

With all your advise :
-I've removed my 2 versions of winspww2
-I've re-installed the game (folder: C:\Shrapnel Games\The Camo Workshop\winSPWW2) and upload it to v11 patch, then restarted my computer.
-I've removed the compatibility mode
-I've ran it in both mode Windowed Directx and GDI . DESKTOP MODE
After 2 or 3 turns, the game shuts down.

What's wrong with me? :mean::confused::confused:

To totally honest I don't know.... the computer specs you posted are very similar to mine. I have a Intel Core i3 2130 @ 3.40GHz but 2gm less RAM and we have the same version of win10

You have the game up to date and in the correct folder so the ONLY thing I can think of is you have a virus scanner that doesn't "know" this game yet but I am no computer genius so hopefully someone else might be able to find a solution....it does seem to me someone at some time had something similar happen

Just thought of something that was a problem way in the past.....try running with your sound off both the computer and in the game preferences

My antivirus is like that with new executables that it does not yet know - it freezes the first attempt as it scans it, then terminates. Usually it then lets it run after it puts a pop-up message, but not if you have pop-up messages disabled (gaming mode or something similar it's called in Avast).

It gets so &*^% irritating in the development environment where every new compile is a "new" EXE to it that I finally read the help file and figured out how to tell Avast which folders not to run its behaviour shield feature in..

Hello dear gamers... and rescuers!

Happy New Year for each of you and your families.

@DRG: OK, I'll try with the sound off.

@Mobhack: I've Avast for Antivirus. I'll try to set parameters for the firewall.

Try puting show introduction to off.
With Avast to test
Either left click on the item on your tray and select disable for one hour
OR
Open it click on settings (top right corner) and disable file shield & if you wish sandbox.

If that fixes it you can put them back on and set the folder as an exclusion.

Apologies for pushing a product on this site but if you have Avast their VPN and driver updater are very reliable.
Driver updater handles everything with ease including "dodgy" updates like BIOS board and RAID and finds updates for most programs as well. Oddly enough it does Windows updates as well much more efficiently than leaving it to Microsoft default.
Cleanup is also unobtrusive and finds far more registry issues than most I have tried. Just pops up when it decides there is enough to do a clean. Probably worthwhile if you do a lot of file deleting or installing/uninstalling (Andy?)

It was the behaviour shield that was my problem - simply navigate to the utility on the avast settings, and select customise. Then select the folders you do not want it to scan - say the shrapnel games folder in this case (assuming you installed there).

You could also do the same for the file shield tool.

Best test though:
- Disable the splash screen (show introduction = no on the game options launcher page 1)
- Turn all sound off, That is the mouse interface click to off (game options page 2, misc) and the 2 in the game preferences screen for battle sounds FX and sound FX.
- Ensure you are in windowed mode, desktop resolution and not full screen mode.

Although why the game would play for a few moves and then crash eludes me. If the game has a problem, it is usually immediately apparent on start-up (e.g. trying to run full screen in 800x600 mode in the free game since many windows drivers cannot handle that screen size any longer - it is obsolete according to Microsoft. So free game users are usually restricted to playing in an 800 wide window these days, unless thier graphics card will handle 800x600).

@Mohback.
I'm testing your solution: and it works! But, what a pity to play without sound effect.
I'll try Imp's advice later.

Good play

If it was the sound there is a conflict with your sound card....it's rare to happen though

Mobhack

Or one of the sound files has been corrupted?

Try firstly turning mouse click back on, and see if that works fine (no crashes)

If so then turn sound fx back on and see if it crashes, and if it crashes on a specific event (trying to move an armoured car say, its move sound may be corrupt, or if a tank is hit, or something specific sound wise that causes a problem).

If all of that works, then it may be the battle fx file that is corrupt so try turning battle FX back on and see how it does...

by corrupt - the file may be corrupt, or it may cause a problem with your sound driver. Either is bad news.

It may be that you have file system corruption - so it is worth running windows disk checker to look for bad files or sectors. if choosing to check the surface, do that overnight as it's a long process as I recall - I haven't had to run that utility in a few years.

Another great and free tool I have been using on Windows for years is glarysoft.

https://www.glarysoft.com/glary-utilities/

It’s free and finds and repairs stuff.

I downloaded and installed that Glary soft program and while I am leery of programs that cleanse your HDD of "unnecessary" files from past experience with other programs that did it too aggressively, this one has some very interesting features especially the one that will check existing program versions and create a list of version updates and the option to select the ones you want to DL. That allowed me to update a few programs I used for peripheral game development to newer versions I normally wouldn't have known existed.:up:

Hello everybody,

Issue fixed!
I've removed all installation.
Then I've reinstall the game and install all the patches.
And that's work on my two PC.
I think there was an issue between two patches, for when I've reinstalled the game, a patch no longer exists.
Thank you everybody for your help.
