I've got all sorts of problems accessing this forum using firefox, I keep getting random web pages and advert popping up no matter where I click on the forums page, one called 'climshort.com' locks the machine.

Now I do not know why it's not doing in Explorer (I'm using it now) nor why it's not doing it on any other websites I visit with Firefox unless they have a tighter security system.

Note I have an adblocker installed and if enabled it does block the ads but also stops me from using the forum in a meaningful way. e.g can't log in.

Anybody any ideas what's going on?

Shrapnel have fixed the attack - that was on Friday, so you should not be seeing that any more. That was discussed (a bit off topic but we all do that:)) in the MBTs thread at http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=45260&page=20 at post 960 or so onwards.

I use Firefox as well, and use ghostery and privacy badger as my ad blocker tools - the web would be unnavigble without these, unfortunately!, and have no problems with the website, including logging in.

(I tried Chrome as an alternative while the problem was active, it still opened the pop-up tabs but unlike Firefox, about half simply opened a blank page - so some of those redirects seem already to have been auto-marked as spamvertising by Google in thier browser).

Clear your firefox cache

It's back. Clearing the cache does nothing.

Logging or clicking on messages takes be to some screen for downloading something. I also get spurious other pages. It's a real pain.

Any suggestions as it also causes the site to freeze.

Note I've tried other forums here and it looks as if it's only this one with the problem.

No issues here (Firefox, Kaspersky Internet Security, File Badger, Adblock Plus)

Perhaps you need to spend a little time upgrading your anti virus / anti ads / anti popups software?

Now today after posting that I had no issues, I am having issues on my desktop when I click on New Posts and then click on the blue arrow button to view it a new page launches and I see a page that says “flash download, download ready, a download button and a final step button.

If I wait long enough then a dialogue popped up saying flash app required to proceed click download and simply add to Chrome to complete the final step with an OK button.

I have never ever seen this problem on the desktop before. I am currently on my mobile device and this issue does not happen, so something is clearly wrong with the website it appears to have been hijacked.

But wait there is more!

I am now on my desktop and other links from the New Posts work fine, it just seems to be this thread.

Really weird man!

Not sure if its possible for someone to hijack or sabotage just one thread?

Going to check a few more New Posts threads and see whats up.

Sorry for all the posts.

All the other "New Posts" Links (by clicking on the little blue arrow thing) work just fine, it only seems that this thread (page 2) is hijacked/whacked out and sends you to another web page with all that other stuff I mentioned.

The "New Posts" from this thread works fine on my iPhone.

FYI all:

Shrapnel has

We have been working on this since yesterday afternoon. Will let you know when it is resolved.

So it is real and it's taken awhile for it to filter to other uses ( I have had no problems this time or last but I have web filters out the wazoo for things like this)

Just to provide further details:

I get a notification from my security system 3 times every time I open site -

Shrapnel is actively trying to solve the problem and I was told......."The problem we are having is that we can go 12-24 hours and have no attacks. It is very hard t find the trouble like this."

For me the attacks are being more and more persistent and a nuisance.

They are happening 5-12 times a day now.

What software would I have to install to block these types of attacks? Some kind of anti-virus software?

Starting to get really worried about all the attacks and don't want to have my machine hacked or loose any of my work.

Thanks.

You should never try using the internet without at the very least anti-virus!

Most folks have anti-virus / security system (prevents phishing, keyloggers, attacks, trackers, etc) usually plus dedicated anti-banner, anti-ads, anti-pop up, etc software.

Internet security software is readily available (usually not for free) - applications like Kaspersky, Comodo, Avast, Norton, etc.

The extra stuff is often free and easy to obtain on line (especially for browsers such as Firefox), popular programs include:
AdBlock Plus, Privacy Badger, AdLock, Banner Blocker, Cyber Ghost, etc.

I find it incredible how many folks see so many adverts (down edge of Facebook, Banners across their searches, between posts on forums, popping up every they click on something, etc), when, with a few minutes setting stuff up properly - you don't see ANY of these! (I don't even see the shrapnel ads top right and left side of screen on the forum - noticeable on your, Zov's, screenshot in the general forum!)

I am getting it too. This is what popped up:

REMOVED URL by Admin

I also got the Flash update one.

I am using Microsoft Edge and running Norton anti-virus. It started about 3 days ago.

Those are the same messages I am getting. For me it seems to be happening with the New Posts and then when I click on the little blue arrow it kicks out a new tab in chrome and gives that (plus other) error messages.

The forums are being monitored and I have been reporting any positive and negative comments that are being made.

Hopefully, if there is ANY justice there is a special place in Hell reserved for Hackers that is run by Vlad the Impaler.

FWIW, and I know for anyone having problems it is cold comfort, I have not had one single problem like the ones described either this time or last and I log into the forums at least a half dozen times a day. I use Chrome for all my log ins and I have McAfee / Location Guard / Privacy Badger active as well as WinPatrol which has not caught anything this time around but has alerted me to other attempts to alter my start up not related to Shrapnel in the past and I would not run a machine without it
