Anyone got a chart or link so I can see what a battalion had in September 1939?

The link (1st ref.) will open to the appropriate page, then just scroll down. This a very good site concerning the Germans during WWII.
I believe it was the last chart at bottom, that shows how ineffective the allies bombing raids were on certain heavy industries including tanks building facilities. All that armor and no properly trained crews to man them all.

The second also a very good site and is linked to their Forums page which should provide some useful info as well.

I like this for some detailed info:

Pages 10-11 are the 1st Panzer Division, once you learn how to read the charts they are a powerful bit of research data.

I had done a lot of research when starting my German Long Campaign a little while back. Core force was built as a Kampfgruppe of 1. Panzer Division, including a Panzer battalion inside it. Here is September 1939 OOB for 1. Pz Div. / Pz. Reg. 1 / Panzer Abteilung I, according to historically available tank numbers for that division:

Other battalions from other divisions will have a similar structure with changing availability of Pz I, II, III and IVs and sometimes Pz-35(t) and Pz-38(t) thrown in.

There are also Panzer Signal Platoon, Motorcycle Messenger Platoon, Reserve Tank Detachment, Light Panzer Transport Column and Tank Maintenance Company but I did not include them to preserve core slots for the rest of the Kampfgruppe (Inf, Artillery, AA etc).
