Monster Gaming 2008
Posted March 17th, 2008 at 08:55 PM by S.R. Krol
For awhile now my board game confederates have been discussing the return of monster gaming back to the table, specifically Terrible Swift Sword. Many years ago, long before I knew them, that was one of their favorite games to play. They'd gather once a week to play and in the end it took them about a year to complete the session.
Shortly after careers started changing, kids starting getting older, and life generally happened. Years later careers have settled down, the kids are now having kids of their own, and life still generally happens although seemingly more stable now. Hence the return to talk about monster gaming.
Personally I've never been too interested in ACW gaming so while I'm up for a grand old game, I'm not sure if it should be that one. I've been checking out Devil's Cauldron recently (which has just begun to ship) and I'm very tempted to get that in the near future and see if that could be our cardboard juggernaut. Admittedly, Market-Garden, like the Bulge, is one of my least favorite battles, but I tell you what the game is looking slicker than Ex-lax through a goose, so it's very tempting. To anyone who has received this, what are your initial impressions? Playable monster?
Of course ultimately I have a feeling it, or any other long term gaming project, will never hit the table, another victim of "Yeah, we need to do that! But not this week. Soon, though!"
