US Army To Discontinue Bayonet Training

Posted October 4th, 2010 at 09:24 PM by S.R. Krol
The Army is doing away with bayonet training. You know, history has shown it's never a good idea when the military decides to phase something out because they don't feel it's necessary anymore. "Guns on jets? This isn't WWII, we just need missiles!" Watch, in a couple of years some unit is going to be wiped out by a bunch of fuzzy wuzzies with spears.

What I wonder is does this mean we should not include melee combat rules for Army units in wargames set in 2011+?

heh, really. "Fuzzy wuzzy" has been a term of racial opprobrium since General "Chinese" Gordon went down to the Mahdi at Khartoum. It just looks a bit bad - I would think that it is conceivable that shrapnel's potential clientele include some who might take offense

oh, I should take this opportunity to pimp Lytton Strachey's great account of Gordon's last stand, in his Eminent Victorians. The whole book is a fun read, anyways.

Other potential clientele might take offense at a user avatar that says, "in the name of allah" on it.

The above message brought to you by the Department of Get Over It.

The British used a bayonet charge in both Iraq (Scots Guards FTW) and in Afghanistan.

Which must have looked as odd as it sounds, with survival knives stuck on the end of SA-80 bullpup rifles. Apparently it worked out as such have almost always worked out. Nobody wants to be on the wrong end of such a charge, not even death lovers.

I, however, am not a representative of a company trying to sell something. Admittedly, most potential clients are probably cracker retards
