Have you played Stars! ?

Have you seen/played Mare Crisium - Stars!?

Seems like the kind of game that you folks would enjoy.

Unfortunately what I've read they are still looking for a (fairly large) publisher

Quote:

Well, we've spent a full year now talking to possible publishers. Most of the big names are moving entirely away from PC games and most of the small fry do not have the resources to fund the remainder of development costs.

This has been discussed many times both here and at the offical SSNG forum. (Stars Super Nova Genesis)

The Last time I posted there must have been two years ago though.

They are looking for financial support to continue developing the game, and Shrapnel is not in that business. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Here are the links to the threads that I posted in. It has been a long while since I posted there and I have forgotten my PW and my email has changed. So I am out of the loop for posting unless I can get Commander or another forum admin to generate a new pw for me.

I should have tried a search first, but "Stars" is quite a difficult/easy thing to find on a board that has so many space-based games.

<Sigh> Yet another good game that we might not get to see. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif Oh well, at least I can still play the original.

I'm waiting for a friend to d/l Starfury for me (lousy dialup). What other ones should I bug them to d/l demos of? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

As I understand it Shrapnel did talk to them but what they want is a publisher willing to front a fair amount of money. Too bad. Id love to see it get done.

I still have a paid-for receipt for VGA Planets 4 which is also not done yet. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

I will probably buy a couple of the space games here. At the moment Im still involved with Dominions

Thanks GP for the info.

Ya Marcrimsim (sp) has a serious issue to contend with. They should sell pre-orders of the game to generate the funds needed to finish developing it.

That is a shame though, because even with pre-orders they will have to work hard to generate enough sales to get what they need. The game has been stagnate for so long now that nearly everyone has lost hope.

I do wish they could find the funds to finish the development though.

I would pre-order the game if they signed on with shrapnel.

I played the first one, but I didn't care much for it. Thier next game looked interesting, but to me, Mare seems to be a small company trying to act like a major brand. They simply aren't that well known to be picked up. A few friends that are developers that I've recommended to look into shrapnel all had good ideas and good games, but all are in the same boat as Mare.

They look to the publisher to do the actual work and put it all on the line. In reality, it's the other way for most publishers.

Yes, most people want to get paid to work, figuring that they publisher is going to shaft them so why not get the money up front. Well for a small company like shrapnel, the risk is shared. Shrapnel and the publishers of the games offered here all in the same boat I will bet.

I hope that Shrapnel continues to do well, and new games sell well.
