War Cabinet 0.8.1 is available!

Hello fellow wargamers,

I am delighted to announce the release of War Cabinet version 0.8.1!

This releases adds the following new feature:

* New feature - German Cross Flag
This new preference can be selected if you do not want War Cabinet to
display the historic German Flag from WWII for personal reasons or to
satisfy the requirements of German Law.

This release adds the following improvements:

* Improvement - report actual turn battle losses
List the actual losses during the turn, instead of all losses up to the
turn.

This release has the following fixes:

* Fixed issue #10:
Save on exit does not save.

* Fixed issue #11:
Be robust against formation or unit count mismatches during battle.

* Fix - fixed crash
Crash caused by incorrect formation detection handling.

This release is completely compatible with the previous 0.8.0 release, and
you can keep using your existing campaign dossiers.

The latest files can always be found here (on GitHub), screenshots can be found here (also on GitHub).

Enjoy!
Erik

Re: War Cabinet 0.8.1 is available!

Inspired by Imp's AAR using this tool I am starting a long campaign using it, However I am either stupid, confused, doing it wrong or all of the above!

If I wish to track both individual battles (at the end of each) and the overall campaign how many of the save games do I need to add to the dossier?

I usually have a save scheme like this:
:grenade: Campaign Save File - save at end of each battle
:grenade: Setup save - save at the start of battle (post Deployment)
:grenade: Odd Turn save - save at the end of each odd numbered turn (before End Turn)
:grenade: Even Turn save - save at the end of each even numbered turn (before End Turn)

The first and second files are only over-written after and before each battle, The third and fourth every other turn. This way I always have 2 turns saved and can rewind to start or before battle if files lost/corrupted or I mess up like hitting done before buying, or continue before fixing units.

Will this work if I add all 4 files? or do i need only to add the first? Or do I need more save files? (each turn separately? each battle separately?)

All help / clarification gratefully received from Erik or anyone who has used the tool

As far as I can tell you only really need these saves
Deploy - which is really signifying the end of the last battle.

I then manually save the first turn right at the start before moving anything if I remember. Just for the GIF animation so has deploy. Autosave is fine if forget at end of turn 1

Those are the only important ones I think rest just provide detail.

I just use the autosave so the saves are consistent for the GIF as always at the same time in the turn.
I only use every other turn for the GIF to reduce file size.

Sorry by deploy I mean either the save prompted for at the end of a battle before going to purchase screen OR
After you have bought forces for the new map seems to work just as well I make a hard save then in case I mess deploying the units so use that.

The bare minimum is one save file from each battle, taken at a consistent time, either
always at the start of the battle (deploy, or turn #1) or always at the end of the battle.

This will provide you with basic campaign tracking, but it will miss info about the core
force changes during the last battle (if you only use saves from the start of each battle)
or during the first battle (if you only use saves from the end of each battle).

So I suggest to always add at least two saves from each battle: one at the start and
one at the end. This will give you adequate campaign tracking, including info about
what happened during each battle.

If you also want to track what happens during the battles, you will have to add additional
saves to get more detail. The more saves you add, the more detail you get.

Of course, adding a save for each turn gives the most detail. You can see the evolution
for each unit and formation as the battle went, and, if you look at the Strategic Map, you
can see the positions change with each turn.

Hi

I've been using this program for a while. Every once in a while I get this error. What does it actually mean.. It is the same campaign that I am trying to add a saved game to.

Anyone??? I assume it thinks that I have changed the OOB's. I am pretty sure I haven't since it's occurred on a couple of different countries. So I am not sure if it is a bug or maybe I am misinterpreting the error message.
