Neutral pack ( 1.20 released)

I'll keep the first part of this post updated with information on, and downloads of this mod

This mod adds four new neutral races to your games of space empires V, for some pictures of these new races, scroll down a few posts.

The latest version of the mod should be downloadable from here:
download Neutral Pack 1.20
This basic version of the neutral pack is only compatible with stock games, and games with unnamed's AI mod or FQM or a combination of those gametypes. Download the mod compatability addon below if you want to use the Neutral pack in other mods.

Installation:
Just unzip the files into the empires directory of the stock game, or if you want to use this with FQM or unnamed's mod into the empires directory of that mod (if it's different)

If you want to use the neutral pack with mods other than stock, FQM or unnamed's AI mod you will need this file:
download mod compatibility addon for Neutral Pack 1.20

This addon will make the Neutral pack work under any SEV mod, if that mod has a working default AI. The addon however does not support custom speech files, if you want to play a game of standard SEV or a game with Fyron's quadrant mod (FQM) or unnamed's AI mod, you will not need this patch, and you're better of using just the neutral pack itself.

Installation:
This is not a stand alone mod, you will need the neutral pack itself for this patch to work, so first make sure that you have downloaded and extracted the neutral pack itself into the \empires directory of your space empires V folder.

If so, you can extract the mod compatability addon into the empires directory of the mod that you want to play, everything should work fine now.

-original post:

Here's the first version of the Neutral pack, this add-on adds two new neutral races to SEV: the Jirwick and the Othosk. The Jirwick were released earlier in a seperate download, but this version has some patches for them. the Othosk are a new race.`

The Neutral Pack should be compatible with any mod that has working default AI files.
To install just unzip the contents of the .zip file into the \empires directory of seV, or if you want to use it in a mod, into the \empires directory of that mod.

I hope to release a patch that adds a custom speech file soon, but I will need to compile AI files to get that to work. I'm going to wait with that untill the new SEV patch is out, to avoid having to go through the whole process twice.
Also this speechfile patch will not be mod-compatible, I'll have to make seperate versions for each mod.

Here's a preview for the portrait of one of the new neutral races, the Othosk, a small preview of the Jirwick is in my avatar.

Those pictures have actually got me interested in neutral races.

Me, too. If I weren't gearing up to do a multiplayer game soon, I'd probably add these. I love neutral races! Give them some solid technology and make a construction yard world in their space, and you have yourself a spider hole if anything hits the fan.

Re: Neutral pack 1.00

I didn't care much for neutrals in SEIV since the other AI empires did not know what to do with them, which gave an advantage to the player.

In most SEV mods however, the AI has learned to deal with alien populations, so they too can take advantage of conquering weaker races. The main reason for making neutral races is however the simple fact that it would take me ages to complete shipsets for all these races :-), and even with neutral races switched off, it will give you some extra race portraits to choose from during game setup.
