It doesn't make any sense...

So with all the talk of CoE3 being in development, I got the itch, if you know what I mean.

It took me a couple games to remember how everything worked, but then I was on a roll... until I fought an immortal Dwarf Lord.

Maybe there is a game mechanic I'm not understanding or something I overlooked, but I'm fighting a dwarf lord backed up by a couple siege engines and I have (had) two full rows of barbarian archers and two full rows of assorted various barbarian melee units. They've all been slaughtered because every time I'd do enough damage to the dwarf lord to kill it, the little bugger would disappear and then half a second later reappear. He wouldn't die. And he just kept killing my troops.

What the crap?

Sounds to me like you've run into a bug. I never experienced that kind of problems with CoE2, but I didn't play it very extensively.

Siege engines tend to be brutal though. I don't remember if they work the same in CoE2 as they do in CoE3, but even one on the defense makes the proposition of assaulting fortified structures iffy unless you have a huge horde.

I may have figured out part of why it was happening. I think the dwarf lord was wearing a magical item that gave him the "immortal" ability or trait or what have you. He had the same symbol that means immortal in Dom3. Just a guess.

IF... that is the case, how do you get around it in CoE?

To be honest, no idea. Immortal units are supposed to return to their home citadel when they are killed, but if that player has lost his home citadel, the immortals are killed.

Was the place where this Dwarf Lord was by any chance something called Dwarven City? If it was, that is the home citadel of a Dwarf King, so you may be forced to wait him out or eliminate everything else he has before tackling that particular location.

I'm also going to have to make sure that this sort of behavior does not happen in CoE3. Thanks for alerting me to the possibility.

I believe it was the Dwarven City. I'm not completely sure, because I accidentally closed the window instead of saving  but it looked like a Dwarven City. So I guess every time I killed him he simply resurrected in his home city... right where I was fighting.
