Strange Tech jump

Hey all. When I start a new game and add empires that Ive created (5k racial, and 100,000,000 tech) all empires but 1 start w/ the correct number of techs I've assigned to them during the creation process (approx 50-60 techs). That final one starts w/ over 300 techs.

It's random which empire will get this tech bonus each time a start a new game, and only 1 empire gets it.

Any thoughts?

How many empires? Might you have hit a 'data error barrier'?

Try reducing the number of tech points by tens, see what happens?

Keep the starting points in the low 9 digit range to be safe from overflows.

Will this have an effect on the total game? I'm kind of into this one and I'd like to see it play out. But not if it'll most likely crash somewhere down the line.

Re: Strange Tech jump

The starting techs were set long long ago on the first turn, and that specific thing won't have any effects on an ongoing game aside from certain races being more advanced.

Is the 50-60 tech using up all the 100,000,000 points, or could you theoretically get up to 300 tech if you used all the points? My first thought was that you might have a computer-generated empire in there that was using up all the points it could get it's mitts on.

Ah, that may be the case. I'll have to experiment a bit to figure it out.

Thanks once again everyone. Great community we have here
