The most interesting thing about this game to me was my bewilderment. As I played the demo, I kept thinking to myself, "is this all there is to it?". But I kept on playing and playing all the while thinking that. What kept me going? I dunno, but something did, so you must be onto something. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Finally, I just had to force myself to quit.

One thing that would really enhance this game is historical market information. Charts and graphs are always good. Even if players don't use it to plan investment strategies, it is fun to see how the history of your game has gone. I added this feature to Space HoRSE and got good feedback from it.

Also, when leaving a planet and seeing the "map" of planets, it would be nice to have a little spaceship icon or something to indicate your current planet.

I have to say, Space Horse is excellent, updating a true (almost forgotten in many circles) strat classic I played as a kid.

Yes, 'twas a compliment... although admittedly vague. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Rockstars a vague, and rockstars are cool, right? Therefore, vague=cool? Ok, maybe rockstars aren't really that cool.

Derek, OH! I really like Gillissie's ideas about the charts and an icon (of some kind) to mark your current planet!

This the post I meant to make until I read, Gillissie's post. Got side tracked with a bit of smart arse!

Congratulations! It is nice to hear good games still get awards. I hope you win several more.
Have a good day.

Checked out the demo... bought the game. I travel alot and I am always on the lookout for addictive independent games to play on my laptop. Shrapnel, Matrix, Battlefront, and HPS are the suppliers of my newest drug... indie strat games.

I agree about the charts and graphs though. RL stocks live or die by the graph.

Great game.

Thanks SlapBone! Glad you enjoyed it enough to purchase. Your support is sincerely appreciated.

Yes, I have heard the comments about adding more charts and other such things; for game history purposes, for instance. A good idea that I will definately note. As well as the icon to show you what planet you're currently on, which is a very practical idea that I never thought of, for some strange reason.

Thanks all for your kind comments so far! I'd love to hear from more people who bought or plan on buying the game with their thoughts and/or compliments. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Questions, comments, compliments welcome!

I am so impatient. I bought 10000 shares of Sunnyside at $1 a share and sold at $4. Meanwhile the stock topped out at $33. That's $290,000 down the hole.

Another idea is to enable stops. After buying the stock at $1 I probably wouldn't have set my stop at $33 but $20 would have been reasonable. Have it to where if you get out before your stop hits then you take a substantial penalty. That way if someone options for a stop, the penalties would encourage them to stick with it instead of bailing early.

"Options" would be another way to get the player to gamble a lot of their money away http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I am in no way a financial expert but I like your stock market model because of its simplicity.

Oh, and did I mention historical graphs? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

I wish my copy would get here because 40 turns is not enough.

Agree with the Suggestion From Todd M. Gillissie
Gilligames about leaving Planet Seeing Map of Planets & Spaceship.

Well I hate to be obvious but Gamespot tore you up. Personally, I like the game (I can play it on my laptop while watching a movie). Maybe, I'm the only one who dug it. I dunno.

Any chance of seeing some patches to add few little tweaks?

Re: Questions, comments, compliments welcome!

Well, thousands of other people seemed to like the game just fine (my purchasing customers before Shrapnel published the game). I think the reveiwer wanted it to be something other than what it was (things like wanting to see your ship "grow bigger" as a payoff and wanting to play the pirats "side" or be able to initiate attacks); it isn't and wasn't designed to be that type of game. It was designed to be just a fun space trading sim, and that's all. I think the reviewer wanted it be more "serious" as a simulation, and didn't review the game as it was intended and presented.

He also was inaccurate in saying the "suicide volley" has no effect at all; it does drain your ship's durability quite a bit, up to 35% per shot. I got the feeling he played it for about a half-hour or so and then wrote the review. Oh well. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

A patch may be coming soon to add a few tweaks here and there. I'll be posting a thread soon to ask what little tweaks people think would add to the game, or make it better or easier to manage.

Re: Questions, comments, compliments welcome!

Well I don't know what that guy expected but I really like it. It's not the deepest, most involving game I've ever played or am playing now but it has an addictive formula.

Great airplane game or as I mentioned before I play while I watch movies with my wife. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif That's why she loves me.

Anyway, I played those Smugglers games and this one has a much better presentation.

Just tell me when you are ready for suggestions. I have a list http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Re: Questions, comments, compliments welcome!

I don't know either, but whatever he was expecting wasn't what the game was designed or conceived to be. It really isn't fair, and it annoys me to no end. But Gamespot has usually been known to not always be fair to lower budget games and favor more hype based big-budget games, from my experience. I think the review was dismissive and didn't give the game as it was designed a fair shake.

Thought: I'd like to see in the near future what more smaller, less-ad and hype driven sites think of the game. Most of the shareware sites and indie themed sites loved the game when I self-published it for awhile, and gave it a lot of compliments. I recall even one of the producers of the game Age of Mythology wrote me about 6 months back to tell me he couldn't stop playing it, so it can't be all bad! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Have a way to determine the economy of a planet WITHOUT having to land on the planet. Also, news info sent to players giving hints about where to buy, what to buy and where to sell would be great.

I think this would be a great idea, and maybe to balance it out make it so there is a better chance to run into pirates because of the public annoucement.

I may toy around with something like this should another patch be released at some point. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
