WW3: Hammer & Anvil

Hello again!

Let's be back to WW3 scenarios. This time we go south, towards Romanian and their attempts to hold.

First of two scenarios, you control a low-quality 2nd grade Romanian brigade with T-55s and BTR-60/70s. Your retreat from Prut area was cut off by Ukrainian paratroopers - and at the same time entire brigade is moving against you.

Your time is short: recapture the bridges and quickly more your rear forces (artillery etc.) to your side. Then set up defensive positions and hold the ground!

Sadly, this scenario remains only partly tested, I do not have much time recently :F

About 15 turns in and having a good time.

Only issue so far is that the retreat directions are reversed. Ukrainians retreat right and Romanians retreat left so when they do they charge their opponents.

Never mind. follow up forces arrived from the other direction. It all makes sense now.

Barely got a 2:1 MV.

The Ukrainians were chewed up in the city by point blank tank and infantry ambushes. Suffered heavy losses just the same trying to hold back the red tide.

As usual, thank you for good feedback!

Was the timing OK to make it possible to capture the bridges in reasonable time and at the same time feeling that breath on your neck?

I took it slow, having forgotten that I was being chased. As a result I lost most of the Arty units and some of the flak. They took out a number of the enemy soft units before they were destroyed.

Once into the city I set up ambushes rather than engaging the superior Ukrainian force at range. They never got far.

The enemy helos beat up my relief force pretty bad but they managed to link up with the retreating forces and add to the ambushes.

I played it from the Ukrainian side and found that if the BDMs pull back into the city after using up their missiles things go much better. I also committed the Hinds earlier to stop the Rumanian advance into the city. Got a DV as Ukraine.

I am looking forward to the follow up scenario.
