Replenishing smoke ammo
 
I have not been able to replenish smoke ammo from ammo units. Am I doing something wrong?

I know ammo resupply is an abstract concept but since the ammo units have everything your units need from main gun ammo to grenades you would think they would have smoke shells/grenades too.

Smoke is not ammo as far as the game is concerned - note the lack of a smoke column beside HEAT, AP, Sabot and HE on the unit data screen...

Smoke is an attribute, that is randomly assigned at game start based on unit class etc.

Ammo units do not replenish smoke, CIWS, VIRSS or smoke dischargers.

And no - the code cannot be changed easily to allow smoke etc to be replenished by ammo carriers (even if I wanted to, ammo carriers being a bit of a "cheat" as the AI has no way to use them).

The smoke amount is randomly allocated as the unit is refreshed at game start. No record of that individually allocated number is held - so there is no way to top the variable up, since one tank may have 3 and the next, 4, the next 3 again etc. So if a tank rocks up to an ammo truck with 0 smoke remaining (or 1 or 2..) - how is the poor truck supposed to know when to stop filling it up?.

Speaking of ammo units, do you need to be in an adjacent hex to get resupplied? If not what are the ranges for ammo canisters, dumps, and bunkers?

I think I have had units draw resupply from 1-2 hexes away but I am not sure.

I am not a code guy so I just go by my observations.

Adjacent or same hex for everything except bunkers and ammo dumps which also supply at half rate in a 2 hex radius.
Fill applicable units in purchase order so B0 before B1
Ammo cannisters only supply weapons with warhead size of 4 or less.

Details are in the WinSPWW2 Unit Classes table of the Game Guide, or you can search the GG for "ammo carrier" or just "ammo" and you will get to it.
