Sountracks

After putting a few wave files from some of my other games in the ..\Game Data\Sounds folder and then editing the sounds.ini file and finding out that it works I have a question

Can we add more entries then the default 10?

For example at the end of my file I have:

;the playlist for background sounds
[soundtracks]
track01="Battlesounds01.WAV"
track02="Battlesounds02.WAV"
track03="AWD_MenuTheme.WAV"
track04="BattleInfScreen01.WAV"
track05="BattleInfScreen02.WAV"
track06="BattleInfScreen03.WAV"
track07="00005004.wav"
track08="00005005.wav"
track09="00005006.wav"
track10="00005007.wav"

Can I add more tracks to the list?

Re: Sountracks

there are 10 spaces for tracks because 10 is the limit.

Cheers

Okay, Thanks Andy. It is cool I found my original SP disks and am trying to figure out how to convert the MEL files to WAV. I love the original SP sound tracks. The 0000xxxx.wav sounds from above are from my CMBO game and the others are from my Gary Grisby's A World At War game. (gotta love the GG music!)

BTW, anyone know about MEL files? I've searched the internet and found not much.

To each his own I guess......we were never in love with it

It's a very arcane sound file system no longer used by anyone I'm aware of . In SP it runs either 22050 hz or 11025 hz. if it sounds wrong at one, try the other. I won't get into the process of making MELS for the game as that's right up there with creating terrain but converting is easy. Just load them into Goldwave and make WAV's from them. It will be

Sound type: RAW
Attributes: PCM 8 bit MONO
rate: either 22050 or 11025

Don thanks for the tips. Interesting take on the music.

Re: Sountracks

"Inspiring" sound tracks get old quick. If I want music while I play the game I'll slip a CD in the tray and listen to what I'm really interested in.

Re: Sountracks

Don,

Thanks the 11025 worked for the MEL files. But no music was found. I did download the Smacker Player to view the videos.

In the old DOS version I thought you guys had a way to point to the video's, is that gone in WinSPWW2?

Yes. The videos are more trouble than they are worth considering most people ( Andy and I included ) hit the space bar to skip over them anyway. I wouldn't have used the old SSI ones in any event as they aren't suitable for modern machines and higher screen resolutions and the man hours it would have consumed to build new ones were better spent on other things so I opted for a non video splash screen to start up the game. We decided early on that it was the game we were going to concentrated on not the "flash" aspects of music and video.

That is cool.

I do like the CBMO sounds in my battle sounds in the background (the birds cherping an all that).

Re: Sountracks

We left the open slots for "battle sounds" or music or whatever players wanted to add and maybe someday I'll have the time to come up with some good background sound effects. The ones in there now were more excperiments than anything. It was assumed the majority of people would opt to turn them off even if they were really good.
