Dominions II T-Shirt Contest

For all you Dom 2 Fans! To kick off the opening of our branded store at Cafe Press ( Gamers Front Branded Store ) we are running a "Cool Saying" T-Shirt Contest. Go to the store and you can see what we are doing: The Dom 2 Logo on the front of the T-Shirt and the Cool Saying on the back.

Here are the rules:

1. You can enter as many sayings as you wish. Just do it all in one post. If you think of new sayings edit your post. Number reach saying as:

2. Blah, blah
3. Blah, blah, blah
Non-Numbered sayings will not be considered. (By numbering your entry(s) you are saying this is an entry - rather than just a post).

2. Post here in this topic. Posts outside this topic will not be accepted.

3. By posting a saying here you agree to let Shrapnel Games, Inc. use your saying for promotional purposes and profit.

4. Posting must be done between now and April 30, 2004. Sayings posted after April 30th will not be considered.

5. The top three vote getters will be awarded a T-Shirt with their winning saying on it.

6. Winners are determined by Shrapnel Games and Illwinter Game Design.

Have FUN!

PS - you can also get to our branded store through the Gamers Front (www.gamersfront.com), just click on the Merchandise menu item.

Re: Dominions II T-Shirt Contest

Well, I adore Latin quotations, so here's a few slogans in that dead language.

1. Benedictus qui venit in nomine Dominions
(A pun on "Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini" - "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. So, in other words: "Blessed is he who comes in (wearing) the name of Dominions.")

2. Est deus in nobis.
("There is a god inside us.")

3. Vae victis!
("Woe to the conquered.")

Other suggestions:

4. Pretend!
5. Hoburg Hero.
6. My other prophet is an ice devil.
7. I fought the game and the game won.
8. Hoburg Hero For Hire
9. Hoburg Hero In Training
10. R'Lyeh does it deeper

11. Bloodslave Inspector
12. Maenads have more fun
(One for Arryn?)
13. Genuine Shroud of the Battle Saint(tm) Wear
14. Warning! Precision 5 Fire Mage
15. Warning! Wearer is horror marked. Keep away from astral flames, twin spears, Tartarian gates, summoning chambers, tantric sex, powerful thunderstorms, dimensional rifts, haunted castles, etheral creatures, magic laboratories, strange vortexes in the ether, mysterious, hooded strangers, supernatural menaces and fortune tellers.
16. Horror marks kill. Don't drink and divine.
17. Will work for world domination.
18. Maenad talent scout
19. I used to have a life, but I managed to trade it in for a Barrel of Air, fourteen earth gems and two clockwork horrors.

20. Real Black Templars starch their underwear.
21a) My http://smilies.jeeptalk.org/otn/love/face80.gif belongs to Great Mother
21b) My http://smilies.jeeptalk.org/otn/love/face80.gif belongs to Allfather
22. I sacrificed 40 bloodslaves, and all I got was this bloody T-shirt.
23. I brake for succubi.
24. Succubi susceptible
25. Good girls go to heaven, bad girls go to Pangaea
26. Do you have pretensions?
27. Sidhe Champion. (If you can read this, my god has wasted 17 resources and 140 gold.)
28. Kiss me. I'm a pretender.
29. Ssssh! I'm hunting bwood slaves.

30. Oh my me!

And a few from the bible:

31. To me belongeth vengeance and recompence
32. I will render vengeance to mine enemies, and will reward them that hate me.
33. The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance: he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.
34. To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people;
35. For it is the day of the LORD's vengeance, and the year of recompences

36. I inflame the hearts of hundreds of thousands, and ponder greatly upon the gods.

Then a couple from Lovecraft:

37. I have harnessed the shadows that stride from world to world to sow death and madness...
38. That is not dead which can eternal lie ; And with strange aeons even death may die
39. Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn.

40. The stars are right!

41. I WILL NOT BE DENIED!
42. Over 1080 unique units and we still mod!
43. Who need high fantasy? We've got mythology.
45. The only strategy game with troll knights riding mooses.
46. Real gods play turn-based.

This one is probably a bit too provocative to some people, but I like it:
47. Yahweh would have played Dominions.

48. Odin, Dahzdebog, Jupiter, Lugh, Ishtar, Osiris, Kukulcan, Zevs ... and you.
49. Have you vanquished the heathens today?
50. Bringing divinity to Origins

There - that's a round fifty, I think I'll stop now.

Just ... one ... more...

51. I selected Luck +3, but all I got was this T-shirt.

And a few more. (Assuming the competition is still open out the 30tieth)

52. 1100 units, 400 spells, 400 magic sites, 250 magic items, 17 nations - 1 victor.
53. 1100 units, 400 spells, 400 magic sites, 250 magic items, 17 nations and you get to be a god.
54. The game for strategy gods.
55. Turn-based godhood.

Then there's one that isn't in the bible, but ought have been (although using that one would probably include royalties):

- "And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee."

And one that would have been great, but is under copyright:

Oh yes I'm the great pretender
Adrift in a world of my own
I play the game but to my real shame
You've left me to dream all alone

I can advice a shirt for each Nation, with the figure too of a typycal soldier of that Army in the back?
This perhaps could cost a little more to have someone drawing the figures and to print them on shirts, but they'll be far more cooler.

My favorite kind of contest!

1. WARNING: This game is dangerously addictive. It is NOT suitable for students, interns, apprentices,
or anyone else who is expected to pass tests on a regular basis. Do not
think about Dominions strategys while operating heavy machinery. The
demo has built-in protections which should not be bypassed. They are for
your health as much as for monetary reasons. Do not begin on the full
Version without first making arrangments for someone to check on you
daily. If you find that your game has continued for more than 36 hours
straight then you should consult a physician immeadiately (Do NOT show
him the game!)

(1. should be typed in text which gradually gets smaller with each line down)

2.
In Dominions, if it looks like a killer strategy
then look at it again carefully.
In Dominions, if it looks like a total waste
then look at it again carefully.

3. What we do every day Pinkie, try to take over the world.

4. My pretender can beat up your pretender.

5. AWARD WINNING STRATEGY GAME
(joystick addicts need not apply)

6.
Me: Some play to win or lose. Others just to stay in the game.
Them: Are we talking about games? Or about life in general?
Me: Exactly.

7. It's for my Cult Leader resume.

8. I am their leader and they love me.

9. The best game I never bought off the shelf.

10. When I have this game completely beat,
I will teach you how.
(talk to me a year from now)

11. The Ascension is yours!
(some assembly required)

12. They dont think Im a god!
(but we are working on that)

13. A Windows, Linux, Mac OS-X, Solaris Multi-Player game of Domination.
(this is NOT your daddy's Chess game)

14. Strategy Games?!? You cant HANDLE a strategy game!

15. There can only be Juan.
Hail Juan!

Re: Dominions II T-Shirt Contest

Oh this is fun just reading these...
These are pretty rough, but if anyone out there wants to sharpen them up...

1. If a god falls in the forest and nobody's left to believe in him, does he get back up ... or ... just dissolve back into potentiality?
The rest of these are just going through the item lists...
2. My other ride is a Pocket Ship (or a Flying Carpet, your choice)

3. (under a picture of a Totem Shield): Curses!
3A. (under Shield of the Accursed): Horrors! (then in small print) That one's yours!!
(This brings up a question about Horrors, do they ever show up as a random or do they have to be Called/Sent by an enemy nation?)

4. (Chainmail of Displacement) Watch out, I'm actually a couple of feet over that way
5. Prophet Motive
6. (Wall Shaker) Acme Demolition Service. Walls removed while you wait (earplugs supplied on request)

7. (under a Marignon High Inq) The original Ghostbuster (this one on orange)
8. I'm not lazy, I'm just set to Sloth-3
9. I Visited the Void Gate and some Thing from Beyond, instead of coming out, gave me this T-shirt. Rough deal huh...
(OK, Void creatures probably wouldn't need 'em... maybe with the wrong number of arms? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif )(this on R'Lyeh green...)
10. Things to do: i. Believe in yourself. Check. ii. Convince everyone else to. Working on that.
11. It's actually rather simple: You live, you die, maybe you sign on with Ermor... (obviously on purple)
12. Dominions II: You Coulda Been A Pretender!
13. Dominions II: The guy next door could be the Man Upstairs.
14. Dominions II: No cheat codes. Get your OWN God mode.
15. Armageddon is just a Last resort for pretenders who know they're about to lose anyway. That's why I'm against it.
16. Dominions II: Quite possibly the best game ever designed by two guys for whom designing games isn't their main line of work

(Aside on this one: The Last time a teacher-type in Europe designed a diVersion to assist in the understanding of the subject at hand, it was Tetris. And the time before that it was Rubik's Cube. And look what happened to them...)

17. What I play, "activating God Mode" means.... something different.
17A. What I play, "God Mode" isn't a cheat. It's a state of mind.
18. Taking the term God game a little too literally.....

Some religious stuff in no particular order. Not sure if it is good to use biblical stuff, but I couldn't resist.

1. After this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it. (Daniel 7:6)

2. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and Languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everLasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. (Daniel 7:14)

3. But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end. (Daniel 7:26)

4. This one who contended first received the crown, gained dominion, and appeared, giving light to everyone. (Nag Hammadi Library - The teachings of Silvanus)

5. When ye therefore shall see the Abomination of Desolation (matthew 24:15)

6. It is I who am God, and there is no other one that exists apart from me. (Nag Hammadi - On the Origin of the World)

7. But for corruption thou hast made Belial, an angel of hostility. All his dominion is in darkness, and his purpose is to bring about wickedness and guilt. (Qumran scrolls 1QM according to several sources, but it's not. Probably a modern remake).

I'm personally fond of 'Något Gick Fel!' http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Mayhap someone ought to sticky this, lest all who would contribute make their marks, and then just take to editing them as the thread sinks into obscurity...

Just a (possibly needless) thought.

[Edit: oh, and to date, I'm favoring 'Något Gick Fel' and Leif's #22...]

Some good suggestions there, but shouldnt a t-shirt hold something non-players should understand? Hmm, i can only contribute these two, and they are both not exactly of my own invention:

1. Some say prayers, but I say "MINE!"

(inspired by the lyrics of the song "Dominion")

2. Dominions2 will crush this world and make its inhabitants slaugther one another!

(inspired by the Game description of the Moloch and some thread on this forum)

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Yes and no. The very best slogans for things like this are those that have a simple, easily understandable meaning that everybody gets and also a different, humorous meaning to the people in the know. The second best slogans are, in my opinion, those that sound intriguing to ordinary mortals, and are inherently funny to insiders. Third best is slogans with a generic meaning which fits the game. Fourth best is slogans that seem bizarre and meaningless (as opposed to intriguing) unless you're an insider. The worst slogans are the ones that have a generic meaning that doesn't have any connection with the issue. (All very much IMO, of course.)

@Leif_-: Roughly agreed. I would just draw the line before the fourth best according to your rating...at least for deciding for myself whether I would show myself in the public with such a shirt http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Totally from a Publisher's point of view: The best slogan is one that will make someone reading the t-shirt ask the wearer "What is this about?" or at least want to make the reader visit the website.

Besides the fact that its the companys who will decide what goes on the shirts... I think I would still prefer to wear a shirt that had something to make people interested in the game. Some of these are funny and would be great to wear at a "Dominions" convention, but not for the public. That doesnt mean they are wasted. They will make great sig files for Posts here or on Usenet newsGroups.

I also think that I would automatically NOT want to wear anything with bible or quran quotes. It just brings conversations to mind that I dont want to be part of. An interested person based on those, who asked what Dominions was, might not like the description. Just not the discussion I would want to have in a grocery store.

Im trying to come up with more that challenge people who think they can handle a GOOD strategy game.

I'm busy and feeling all-around uncreative, but my only request is that the saying picked have some distinctive Dominions II flavor to it. It shouldn't be a quote that could be applied to just about any other GodGame out there -- it needs to have flavor that is both immediately recognizable to Dominions II players and intriguing/unique enough for non-players to ask "Hey, what's THAT all about?"

So, yeah, cool quotes that come from movies, literature, and commercials or other stuff that could be found in variety of non-Dominions contexts shouldn't be up for the running. I'll list a few of my Favorites here in a sec.

If the T shirt is going to look like the game/bookcover, I hope its going to be a short message inside the globe. Not something to long

I would like to see a blue T-shirt with the following (and the Last part to be in the globe- instead of the words "The Ascension Wars")

1)
Dominions II
We all start as pretenders!

2) Dominions II
still researching after all these turns

3)Dominions II
where communion is for slaves

4)Dominions II
where every thing has a counter

5)Dominions II
where driveby priestings happends

6) Dominions II
if anything can compare with MoM

number 6 was the reason that actual look on this awesome game, though I forgot where and who and how exsactly that was worded. BUT certainly a t-shirt I would love to where on a gamers con. But you offcause have to know what MoM does refeers to here! Or at least put in something like "Strategy game of the decade" or something simillar

My proposition :

I rode alongside the knights inquisitors of Marignon, battled abominations from the Void Gate, sailed across the seas in Vanheim's longships, uncovered the secrets of black steel in the secret forges of Ulm, consorted with the Grave Priests of long forgotten C'tis and all I got is was this stupid T-shirt !

Some other less serious propositions http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

1) Improved Crossbreeding failed experiment

2) Hoburg weed, 'nuff said.

3) So THAT is the Gift of Kurgi ?

4) Kurgi who ?

5) <- I am a Pangea base-theme Pan. Yay me !

6) My cyclop pretender picked up that spare Eye of Aiming, weeee

It'd be cool if you could make two such quotes (front and back) that worked together. Probably with a second from Bob's Opponent Joe, or perhaps from Bob a little later in the morning when things aren't working out so well.

Hmmm, plus this would need an appropriately wrathfull picture to go with it. The Dominions manual cover art is too tame for my tastes.

2) You killed our God!

4) Dominions 2: the depopulation game.

5) My god got more purple hearts than a Vietnam vet.

6) If only I had another eye to lose...

7) Botulf was here.

BTW, does anyone remember this old little game where cartoon Versions of real world leaders nuked each other with bombers and nuclear warheads? I think I remember Ronald Reagan was featured as "Ronnie Raygun" or something like that. When the game was over, you could see an hilarious cutscene with the winner wearing full NBC gear in a barren wasteland, jumping and yelling "I've won! I've won!". What about T-shirts depicting a bandaged, one-eyed Titan jumping and yelling "I'm God! I'm God!" with a devastated landscape in the background?
