Latest patches killed both games for me ( RESOLVED )

Applied the latest patches to previous working versions of SPWW2 and SPMBT (10.01 and 11.01).

Went to save a scenario in the editor and used the new "go to" button to find a slot. Game froze. Had to click "close window" on the game icon to exit the game. Now the game will not load. Opening screen comes up but clicking "Play WinSPWW2" closes it.

Tried re-applying the latest patch. Game still will not load.

Identical experience with SPMBT.

Does it still not load after a reboot ? I have always found that a "hard" shutdown like that freezes the games as you described but a reboot clears the problem up

I have used the GOTO to save scenarios and save games dozens of times without any trouble......just retested now and it's working OK

We are going to need all the info you can give us about your computer.

And we need others to try using the GOTO to save a game or scenario and let us know if it causes problems ....Andy and I tested that numerous times without any problems whatsoever. I just tried it again with my "virgin" test installation game and it sailed through the process without any difficulty

Reboot allowed me to open SPWW2 but not SPMBT. Once SPWW2 opened, using the GOTO to save a scenario in the editor killed it again.

Re: Latest patches killed both games for me

I just tried both games again and everything worked perfectly on a GOTO scenario save. My OS is the same as yours and my CPU is similar. We are going to need more feedback from others about this.....I know some may now be reluctant to try but if we do have a problem we need more than one report. Right now I cannot explain how it would not allow you to run MBT after a reboot or why it's crashing on GOTO still with WW2

Does your installation game path differ from the standard? I have tested both the standard installation and my "working game" installation which is not "standard" and both run flawlessly

Re: Latest patches killed both games for me

The GOTO function takes you to the specified slot, with the relevant game selected ready to save or load etc. as per the action being done, in your case saving a file.

At that point it is in the wait for keyboard input for a file name just as if you had clicked the slot with the mouse in a regular save.

While waiting for a string, it will accept only characters in the red file name field with RETURN to accept the current file name, or ESCAPE to get you back to the save screen to select another file slot etc.

If this was the cause of your"freeze" then in future -
- enter a new file name if desired (typing characters, using backspace or delete etc)
THEN:
- press ENTER to save the file with the current file name and close the save screen
- press ESCAPE to return to the main save game screen without a save

Re: Latest patches killed both games for me

As to trying to stop the game by "clicking close window"

The game window does not have a close window icon in the top right corner, since it has to be properly shut down through the main menu screen. It is deliberately designed to not have such a "one click exit" in order to not have an easy way to mis click on 1 icon and nuke a currently running game, and because it was originally an MSDOS application anyway.

I presume the one you clicked on is the desktop bar in the windows task bar?. If you used that then Windows probably simply removed the task from the task bar and left it running in the background since windows has no way to stop the game. So when you tried to use the game launcher - it exited immediately as the game is found to be still running.

In that case you need to kill it via the Windows Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL and launch task manager, find it on the list of running tasks, and kill it there)

CB..........you need to detail exactly the steps you took that caused the problem for you because we can't recreate it

No issues saving / loading existing games or new ones using "GOTO"
(SPMBT & SPWWII - Win 10)

Finally installed the patches, and no problems on goto feature at all.
