Error Messages

I am getting error Messages on start up:

-----

Error fg_vbinit=-1

-----

Access violation at address 0047F80E in module 'DUNGODY.EXE'. Read of address FFFFFFFF.

-----

Access violation at address 0045450B ..... (ditto above)

-----

These are preventing the game from starting. The first occurs just once and can be removed from the screen. The other two appear one at a time and can be clicked off only to be replaced by the other in a seeming infinite series.

Any ideas on how to correct this?

Re: Error Messages

Hi Kim,

Can you email me at do@malfador.com with complete details on the problem you're running into. Info like:

The specific error Messages.
Operating System you're using.
Video resolution supported by your video card.
Type of video card.
Amount of memory on your machine.
Processor type of your machine.
Any programs you are running at the same time.
Anything else that seems important.

Just a handful of people who've played the demo have run into this problem. I'd love to get it solved and get you up and playing as soon as possible.

Grandpakim:

I think I had a similar problem when I tried running the demo on an NT4 machine. I believe NT only supports DirectX up to either Version 5 or 6 which is not good enough for DO's DirectX7 requirements.

I figured the error Messages was due to the DirectX incompatibilities but your situation may be different.

BTW I got the demo to work on Win 98 SE running DirectX 8.0

Hope this helps.

Thanks Mlai, but I think my prob is a little different. I'm running Win 95 on an old machine though I do seem to have met all the minimum requirements. Anyway, I sent all the data off to Aaron. I have a hunch he will get it solved. He's like a terrier with stuff like this. :-)

Re: Error Messages

I've been getting game-crashing access violations while playing the demo on Win 98 SE with directX 8.1. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

I've sent an email off to Aaron as well, hopefully this will be fixed soon http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif - I like playing this game (sans these crashes)!

Re: Error Messages

I get the same error Messages, and crashes to desktop. I'm running WindowsXP professional, have the latest direct X upgrade, and it crashes about 3 minutes into the demo. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif
