Yep, i already used this trick with HQ transport:)
FWIW i checked 5.0 version and issue was already here.I distinctly remember playing campaign without it at some point in the 00-s. For now working fix would be starting with +100 points handicap and upgrading one of pack mules to wagon.

another small bug - D company commander is D1 instead of D0

How far into the campaign are you?

In the initial scenario, D0 is the command unit not D1
