Freak Spatial Anomaly?

I was happily playing SE4, when my space yard ship was teleported halfway across the galaxy! I now have a base space yard across the galaxy because of this. I thought that events only affected ships, not bases?!?

Nope, it hits bases. I even made a scenario once based on this idea. It didn't actually use the spacial anamoly, since there was no way to control that. But the topic came up on the forum here, so I created a scenario where you had only a base space yard transported to the middle of a nebulae in a quadrant where you had no other planets or ships. You had to build troop ships and take over an AI planet and build your empire from there.

I had a spacial anamoly hit a mothballed ship once. Hows that for useless? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

And it even affects units. I had a satellite once that got transported accross the quadrant. It was sort of useful though since it allowed me to make contact with another race and start trading with them.

Weirdly, the base was teleported 1 sector away from one of my invading fleets. This is the 2nd event I've had, the other one being meteorites reducing a planet's conditions. It's kinda annoying when you got a construction yard teleported into the middle of space http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif Imagine what the civvies taking a tour on that ship would think!

Uh... that you've invented some sort of super-secret faster-than-light travel?

No, but seriously, Geo, can you plz post a link to that scenario? I've been thinking about scenarios like that, only I have NO idea how to do it...

Re: Freak Spatial Anomaly?

Quite easy. Build a space yard ship, then destroy your homeplanet!

Sorry, base space yard.

A few minutes of looking and I've turned up nothing. I thought I had posted it here, but search didn't turn anything up. It might have been one of the scenarios that I got added to the Gold CD extras folder. I don't have my CD handy to look though.

Yeees, you could be right..... I believe it is. Together with a scenario where all combat goes via drones, no?

I always liked having a mothballed base space yard hit by the event. Oh, the irony.

I have played games before trying to utilize that feature.

I'd load up a few colonizers and repeat moving them betweeen a few colonies with resupply. If the chance of events are high, there was frequently an anomoly that would zap me to another quadrant where I frequently did not have WP access to.

Come to think of it though, that hasn't happened to me for quite a while. Is this some sort of patch/fix? Is that event hardcoded or can you increase the chance of that happening?

I think it'd be kinda' cool to not allow stellar manip and rely on those anomolies to move to cutoff sections.
