Rise & Fall: Civilizations at War demo is out!!! Totally didn't expect it to be out this early.

Since I'm lazy, he's the ebgames link to it...has screenshots. Been following this one for a while. Looks really good. I'm downloading the demo now but will post feedback once I've had a chance to play.

PS. Has anyone picked up either Space Rangers 2 or Hearts of Iron Doomsday? I picked up HoI: Doomsday last night, was about to install it. I still don't know whats different, and why I spent $20 for it. Anyone know the first half?

Heh. Seems a number of companies have cancelled contracts with StarForce, between the complaints from users whose computers have been screwed up by it, and the way the Star Farce guys posted links to pirated downloads of GalCiv2.

Yeah, I was thrilled when I heard Ubisoft dropped SF, now I can finally buy HoMM V with peace of mind. (Yes, it was confirmed HoMM V will not have SF)

WTF?? They posted links to pir8 sites? Thats just cold. I know the President or one of the top dogs at Star Force is nazi-like in his pursit of nay-sayers, but I didn't know it went to that level of assdom.

Anyhow, there is a non-starforce version of space rangers 2 coming out at the end of April. Its a download version through direct2play or something. The kick is, that you can only install it three times per license. I hope thats not what I think it means...I PM'ed one of the mods over on the SR2 boards to confirm. Anyhow, I am debating if its worth it or not if it is, because it looks like a damn fine game.

I never understood that what is this Starforce hysteria. I got many games using Starforce copy protection, and I never had any problems with my computer + laptop. I think if you have winxp [pro] with all updates, starforce wont cause any problems ever, at least i know many people with the same updated system like mine, they bought starforce protected games, and they never had a problem at all...of course they got different hardware.

Yep. And it's not just interfering with games : SF has also caused a lot of people's CD/DVD burner drives to be unusable, and also opens holes that compromise security of the computer, allowing viruses to slip in and _then_ be undetectable by anti-virus software because of StarForce.

About Starfu... huh Starfarce, I made the big error of unknowingly buying a pair of "protected" CDs . Well they were so well protected that I never ever succeeded in starting a game, I had to get noCD "pirate" patch to be able to play the game I bought ! [img]/threads/images/Graemlins/Envy.gif[/img]
This on a quite standard rig that had very very few problems with games (I play 30+ a year, from DOS antiquities like MoM to things like Elder Scrolls or Nexus).

Edit : didn't know Space Rangers 2 at all, looks quite cool, even is said to be TBS !! Does someone plays it ? Where can I get it ?

Doomsday is ok, however I dont think that it adds too much to the original game, in fact I prefer the original.

Yep...I was very dissapointed with the game. The controls were blah, the interface was blah, the combat system was blah. Cross-Genre games so easily fall into the suck pool its not funny. I had high hopes for this one. Oh well.

PS. DominionsFAN, if you spend more time around PCs then you will quickly find out that what effects and works for you will mean diddly squat for the guy next door.

PDF - They didn't have a publisher in the US for SR1, but they do now. Most major retailers are stocking it...you can get it at EBX for instance, and their online store. At the end of April you can download a Starforce free copy through a online retailer that does digital distribution. I can't think of the name atm. Go to www.spacerangers2.com and check the forums.

games pretty basic, combat is clunky at best and heroes are overpowered (and practically invunerable).
step 1: get horde of archers on a boat
step 2: lure enemy to shore near off-shore boat
step 3 run through the enemy multiple times (which causes practically no damage to you) swinging your weapon or shooting. also note this is just as effective without the archers because troops are ridiculously underpowered. its like one player starting with and air queen and one starting with a bunch of militia, 2 sword hits (1 for unarmoured foes) or 1 arrow (5 of which can be launched at once) kills an enemy but your regular troops do practically no damage.

Bah, I've ordered it, and man it's the best/most entertaining game I've played in years !

I heartily recommend it, especially to US players who have the chance to avoid Starfarce crap.

um, wouldnt call it that original. i also find it VERY easy (apart from breaking gates i dont use troops) to slaughter enemy armies with your hero alone.

This game is very weak for an RTS. Not just because of this weird arcade - rts combination but the game will be way to simple, the gfx is average and I could continue.
I think that this game's quality cant even be compared to a decent RTS like Warhammer: Mark of Chaos.

even compared to the total war series i find this game lacking. (although alot of rts games are lacking compared to total war games)

Hello, long time no hear -- just had to de-lurk on this one.

This is not the case now, SR2 is available from Stardock as a digital download with NO COPY PROTECTION. Stardock.com has promoted Dom3 quite a lot, by the way, so go check it out. I purchased SR2 from them and found it most entertaining, it really is quite nice.

But speaking of Demos -- can someone who knows something about computers help me please? I installed and tried the HOMMV demo (didnt like it much at all), but I cannot uninstall it, no matter what I do. I have no shortcuts anymore, but even via system -> software -> remove I get the message that it is successfully uninstalled, yet this is not the case, it is still in the list, still taking up sometihng like 700MB. Can anyone help me please? Thanks so very much!

The demo is surprisingly good. The graphics could use some work, but overall it's a blast to play.
