Browsing and Posting are slower

Ever since the change I've noticed browsing and posting in the forums are slower. Takes 10 seconds just to open the contents of a small topic, and 7 seconds just to create a new topic. Even when I hit the back button there's a loading delay which is quite unusual. When I test performance on other forums the loading times are under 3 seconds for any browsing. I'm not noticing these delays on any other forums and I've performed the typical cleaning of cookies, internet temp files, adaware scans, etc., .

I would advise investigating comparing browsing speeds between the new shrapnel forums and other forums on the internet.

I'm not experiencing the same issues. I'd say the speeds are similar on the new forum to on the old. However, I do have a ridiculously speedy internet connection (fat university connection at work, 24MBps at home), which may make a difference.

I'd say it has stayed the same, too, not faster and not slower. Those other forums that you're referring to are probably another forum software. The phpBB3 software did get a speed tweaks due to a new implementation.

The question is what's the bottleneck, the processing time of the server or the internet connection / bandwidth. The server might be able to get a significant performance boost if a server side cache system gets installed like memcached / eAccelerator / APC. The culprit might be all those tiny images that make up a page, which translate to hits and might stall browsers that wait for the downloads, too.

No change in speed here.

With a standard (irregular 1024Ko often dropping to 128) internet connection., my feeling is that the browsing a bit faster ^^

Re: Browsing and Posting are slower

At home I have 20MBps which is the fastest available for purchase in my area and when at the office I have a T1 connection(faster). I haven't noticed a decrease in speed on any other forums of all types which browse topics within 3 seconds or less. These other forums range in popularity such as webridestv.com(Car_Site), heavengames.com(Gaming_Site), hardforum.com(electronic_deals/advice) .

Not sure why these forums take 10 seconds for each change in browsing.

I had noticed a bit of slowdown as well, which for the most part I had attributed to the kinks not being worked out yet, and people continuing to manipulate the system behind the scenes.

It's a good point that all of those little images and banners do tend to slow page loading noticeably in most cases.

All that is bearable enough, but on the old forums using back button was almost instantaneous, and now it completely reloads the page, which with the much slower load times, is really frustrating.
