Mixed units

I've seen some strategy suggestions regarding alternating sizes of troops within their formation and other similar setup strategies, however, for some reason on my system whenever I put different types of units in the same company they clump together like they think they're 'separate, but equal' or something.

Is there some setting or hotkey command that you have to use to organize the array of mixed units inside a company?

I think, you need to group them in separate squads on top of each other.

There are 2 ways of doing this, the messy way is to dump two squads on top of each other. The less messy way, but more micro one is to buy the troops in the order you want them placed. So if you can buy size 4 and size one 1 units buy them like this: 411411411411 etc. Becomes horrible micro after casualties.

You can also place the smaller units behind the larger units. That way you ensure that the larger units make it to the front lines, and the smaller units will filter in through the holes and you end up with a good mix.
