AMX-30 stabilizers

Appears none of the AMX-30 tanks have stabilizers in the game. According to wikipedia, however;

"During the production run many improvements were implemented. These included gun stabilization from 1971, and from 1972 replacing the original coaxial heavy machine gun by a dual purpose 20-millimeter (0.79 in) autocannon against light armour and helicopters, with the ability to depress to -8 degrees and elevate to 40 degrees."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMX-30

Didn't find information on whether the export version (AMX-30S) was similarly equipped, which might be relevant at least to battles involving Qatari tanks vs. Iraqi tanks during 1991.

Friendly hint.
Wikipedia is a fairly good source to START researching things from.
But should NEVER be used as a source in and of itself, since the data in it is often incorrect.

Tin cans will get you killed every time. As some considered it the worst MBT built with a non-stabilized CN 105 F1 RB 105mm and thin armor certainly it would've been a death trap. An improved version pictured below was the up armored AMX-30B2. Army guide refs brake down all various combat versions to include engineer types. My first ref is always my start point, I have seen this site ahead of the others many times the only draw back is sometimes they don't always update some of the material but overall very good and accurate information as compared against other sites.

It is not advisable to assume Wikipedia is an accurate source without at least one other source to back up that information.

That said, this website:

http://www.inetres.com/gp/military/cv/tank/AMX-30.html

Says stabilizers were installed on the AMX-30B2 version but not before

Re: AMX-30 stabilizers

I'm REALLY starting to dislike tanks right now or better yet the data out there. With all due respect here's another USA tank identification course this one for NATO that I've posted before some time ago. Based on this and others checked the only AMX-30 to have a main gun stabilization system is the Venezuelan one. Lots and lots of talk about FCS stabilization such computers, range finders, periscopes and such but again only Venezuela is mentioned as having accurate "fire on the move" capability. So I don't know except we at least should make sure their AMX-30 MBT has it as well. But the fun part is to come when you look at the LEOPARD 1 section and see only the LEO 1A3 is mentioned for Turkey. This is what I feel like right now :pc: !!
http://www.globalsecurity.org/milita...in0535/ch1.htm

NEVER MIND TURKEY IS GOOD, THEY GOT THE LEO 1A1A1 A YEAR AFTER THE IN 0535 ED. C LESSON ABOVE WAS PUBLISHED. I DON'T UNEDIT SO SOME MAY LEARN FROM MY "ERRORS". THE SCORE IS NOW ME NIL PC 2. TIME FOR BED!!

I hope to have a better day at the range later today then I just had!?!

Pat

Yeah "been there......done that"

Pat, you will not find sources that consistently agree on how fast a Tiger tank could move.

Venezuela ? Hmmm let me see..... oh yeah, Venezuela's not in the game Pat but if we ever add it I'll make sure their AMX-30's have stabilizers . :D

Don,
You know there's something to coming home late at night from work, just relaxing and watching some TV and just going to bed! The NH 90 TTH A109 for New Zealand comes to mind again!?! The Turkish LEOPARDS should be good as submitted, I intially didn't take into consideration that Turkey hadn't recieved the LEO 1 A1A1 yet as compared to when the 0535 Lesson was prepared and published. Another pitfall to watch for with the use of refs.

Pat

Re: AMX-30 stabilizers

The AMX-30 in the game may "not have" any Stabilizer value other than zero (0) however, IMHO their firecontrol and vision values are good enough to makeup what they lack in stabilization. Same thing happens with the M-48s. They can put up a good fight when firing on the halt.

Re: AMX-30 stabilizers

According to a Polish article on AMX-30 in nTW-10/99, neither AMX-30B2 has a gun stabilizer (it has stabilized commander's observation device instead).

Re: AMX-30 stabilizers

Thanks for the attention everybody. So it seems best to conclude that only the Venezuelan version has actual gun stabilization. But in game terms, should the stabilized commander's observation device grant the French B2 and perhaps some updated exports some stab value?

By the way, this is already the case with some tanks in the game, Shermans at least, which have stab value despite the real tank lacking gun stabilizers. Perhaps the Shermans shouldn't have it either, but I think other factors affecting game stab value should be considered besides the main factor of actual gun stabilizers.
