Quest Targets respawning. Bosses disappearing

Two things that feel kind of strange:

1. Even after having fully completed a hunting quest, the target ships/creatures keep reappearing in that sector. So for Example sector 27 will always have a space phoenix in it and sector 13 crawls with unfriendly "gruff troublemakers" even after i killed them and turned the quest in. Is this working as intended?

2. Exploring my second temple i encountered some evil and quite deadly space creature. So i did the logical thing and ran away. :)
Now after a few hours of playtime and getting stronger equipment i revisited the temple and fully explored it. The aforementioned monster was nowhere to be found. Just gone.

Are these bugs or all part of the greater plan?

edit: The "Trap Achievement" does not seem to work. It still shows 0 activated traps and i ran into many traps already.

Fennrick,
To my knowledge I do not experience either of these behaviors.
However, I will try to re-create both this weekend.
(I am not saying you are mistaken, I am approaching it from an empirical viewpoint, with a mind to what would cause that.)

And about achievements:
Remember that If you are playing without perma-death, then no achievements will register. One of the caveats to the hardcore.

Of course i play with perma death on.

I have to say that I had once seen a quest target respawn. It might or might not count, though, seeing as while I had dealt more than 90% of total damage, the target got finished by something else.

Ibol, both of these happen exactly as Fennrick described. This is how it has always been, and I always assumed that it was intended.

1) All quest monster respawn forever.
2) Boss monsters save as normal monsters, and vice verse - something that was a normal monster can be a boss next time you visit. I guess 'bossness' gets rolled when the map is loaded.

By the way, both of these can be to the player's advantage - if you need a quick relation change, you can visit an old quest sector, and if you cannot handle a boss, you can reload the map.

Tuidjy:
Bossness was re-rolled for a long time, but it is *not* how it is now.
.Boss is saved directly in the map file. It's one of the reasons that saves did not carry over from previous beta versions.

As to quest monsters:
If a monster "belongs" in a sector , it will spawn there.
(certain races or monsters are procedurally determined by sector, regardless of quests)
Certain quest-only things should *not* respawn, outside of that quest.
There is no mechanic to carry it forward.

One exception to this is "astral phoenix": it's unique ability is that for every one that is killed, a new one spawns somewhere else. "phoenix" rising from the ashes. This is not a bug, it's a feature (for real!).

Otherwise, the game checks to see if a thing is needed for a quest in that location, and if so, will spawn it.

I challenge you to be certain that:
1. you have turned in the "gruff troublemaker" quest.
2. you go back to that sector and kill every single one of them.
3. leave and return. if there are once again tons of troublemakers (a specific monster type, not just 'gruff'), then I will concede the point

Er. Ma. Gerd.

you are 100% correct about the trap achievement.
there is nothing in the code that monitors it.

I've been playing, trying to get to a point so that I can check these issues (started new game), but I can easily verify that achievement 130-132 are not monitored at this time. It will be fixed in the first update.
Good on you.

Re: Quest Targets respawning. Bosses disappearing

Ibol, I would love to do it, but I gave my Beta tester's copy to the neighbor's son (It had arrived in their mailbox, and I could tell he had believed for a second it was for him) and have not gotten around to getting a second one yet. So I am going off memories.

I had, in the Beta, tried to get rid of all gruff juvies, and failed. You always could get rid of the stationary targets - but not of those that respawn while you are in the sector, at least not in some sectors. I distinctly remember posting about the sectors that seem to generate enemies faster than even a good ship can one shot them. Gruff troublemakers and Phoenixes were the ones I remember killing a lot, to raise my relation with some other races.

If i have time to play again today i'll try to destroy all the gruff troublemakers in the according sector and see if they still come back. Thing is: Most people will just kill the number the quest wants them to and then turn the quest in (like i did).

I thought so about the phoenix btw.

Sounds good to me. There are always a lot more sectors to spend your time in ;)

I'm going to be out of town this weekend with ~0 internet, so I will get back to you all eventually.
