Sabot Range some questions :)

Just need some info about the "Sabot Range" value for the weapons.

Sabot Range = minimum range for ATGM but does it work in the same way for another weapons ?

In some cases yes, in some cases no. I don't have a list at my fingertips so I cannot tell you which ones do and don't but I can tell you that mortars that might have a sabot range ( let's say 2 ) cannot be indirect targeted under two hexes from the firing unit

General rule any type of arty mainly mortars rockets & any missile ATGMs SAMs it gives the minimum range. For area SAMs it can be quite large like over a Km.

Let me know if you ever see an area SAM actually not fire under it's mimimum range

Minimum range for SAMS has never worked. You can put a S-300 on a 20x20 map and it will still fire it's missiles even though it has a "sabot" range of 100. One day we hope to fix this but it's tangled up in a lot of other things

Of course - LR SAM get to fire on planes as they "arrive" as long range off-map fires. In which case range is irrelevant (whether the map is only 20 by 20 or not).

They usually therefore get the one shot at approaching planes (or missile firers) and nil at on-map fliers (Including helos).

That seems to be the main reason for LR SAM - a long range shot at fixed wing air approaching the battlefield. Though it might get a second shot if the map is very large?.

So - the correct test would be to see if an LR SAM takes a shot under its minimum range after the plane has begun to move across the battlefield. Edge of battlefield appearance is not counted.

Cheers

Dont tend to use area SAMs much anymore but would say it generally works.
Ignoring firing at a plane as it arrives the SAM will not fire at planes or helos under its min range.
Does work I have exploited the min range with helos.
Latest SAM I have used Canadian ADATS system with a min range of 20. Refuses to engage anything below 20 with it but otherwise works fine vs ground & air targets.
Nifty buying that air defence when he bought no planes was not such a points waster after all.:)
If only they had giros
