Re: \"Wish\" spell

Wish has few spesific keywords that it accept. You can enter the type of any monster (Sphinx, Nataraja, Doom Horror). This can cause problems as well: typing in "Priest" gives you one independent Priest. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Almost all summoned creatures appear as units (or soldiers), and you need a commander to move them or position them for battle. You can only make them commanders (and use their magic) if you cast Gift of Reason on them. Gift of Reason is Enchantment spell, and you can't Wish for "Gift of Reason".

Doom Horrors appear as commanders. Doom Horrors are dangerous to call for, will disappear after a while, at least one doesn't move from the province it was summoned into (AND it causes feeble-mindedness!).

There are few spesific words that cause special things. 'Armageddon' is bad. 'Death' kills the caster. 'Food'/'Supply' gives you items that produce food. 'Gold'/'Money' gives gold. 'Army' gives you lots of useless militia.

Sunray X have listed many "Wish codes" for Dominions 2. They still work in Dom3.

Re: \"Wish\" spell

Yes, you can wish for many things , including some units not usually available.

For exemple, you could wish for a manticore, and get one (yes, the same one that you can choose as a pretender).

Of course it will only get the base stats (it's not another prentender), and start as a unit (you need to use "gift of reason" to make him a commander)

You can also wish for magical power, gold, dominion, gems, ...

Warning : while you can wish for a doom horror (the biggest horrors), they might attack your mage instead, and even if controlled, they usually leave after a few turns of the first battle.

You can also wish for specific items, even artifacts. Note also that they are some items that can never be forged, and only appear in possession of some mercenaries of indeps (bogus the troll for exemple has a green armor, and a "precious" ring). There is only 2 ways of having such objects : eitheir you find it after defeating the previous owner, or you wish for it.

Re: \"Wish\" spell

Wish is now a more interesting spell. In dom2 "Doom Horror" was the most cost effective use of the spell. I wonder what is now king of the hill?

"Blood" -- used to be near the top, now maybe it is king?
"gems" -- a decent if uninspiring choice
"power" -- sometimes quite useful
"magic power" -- doubtful, very specialized use.

Are there any creatures worth wishing for?

Re: \"Wish\" spell

wishing for blood slaves gives a really nice slave to gem ratio... you get upwards around 300 of them (or at least you did in dom2)

I most often catch myself wishing for "power" to make the wisher very durable then "magic power."

It is an incredibly effective use of gems to wish for magic power, as it increases every magic path by 1. compare that to empowering.

It is hard to imagine nearly any unit as being worth the gems you have to put into a wish.

Re: \"Wish\" spell

It is all? Only several words for 100 magic pearls? Or do you know these words only? Maybe there are other words?

And use Gift of reason and Wish too expensive. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Re: \"Wish\" spell

There are tons more words ( http://www.freewebs.com/dominions2/spells.html ) however I was looking for what people are finding efficient now that doom horrors have been nerfed.

Re: \"Wish\" spell

the link wauthan posted is an extensive list of what you could wish for in dom2... if they added to it in dom 3 it is going to take some experimentation to find out.

in dom 2 a "vastness" was roughly as usefull as a doom horror, but less dangerous to own.

I'll post the dom2 list here for convenience sake:
  • "Armageddon" : earthquakes and meteors kill 20% of the population and of the units in most provinces of the world.
  • "Army" : gives you 300 militiamen.
  • "Artifact" gives you a random unique artifact. This is pretty funny if that artifact exists, whoever has it gets a message that it disappears into a poof of smoke and your mage suddenly has it! If the item is cursed, the mage cannot remove it.
  • "(Artifact)" : gives you the said artifact... including those which aren't listed in the magical item manual or in the forge lists : Vial of Frozen Tears (+1 D,W), Sun Sword/Shield/Armor/Helmet (of Solaris - mostly awe, berserk, and magic resistance), Hammer of the Cyclops (50% forge, 37 damage), Precious (attack and strength bonus), Greenstone Armor (prot 17), Robe of the Sorceress (+1 S,D,N,B and prot 15), Crown of Karafagus (+1D and 1 mummy/t), Admiral's Sword (curses those it touches).
  • "Blood slaves" : you get 250.
  • "Broth" : same as "food"
  • "(Creature Name)" : you get the said creature. Like "hero", they lose all magic. However, if you can cast Gift of Reason, they still have secondary powers, so Arco Priestesses have heal, etc.
  • "Death" : guess what happens to the mage...
  • "Death Match" : a Death Match is scheduled next turn.
  • "Defence" : same as "power"
  • "Dominion" : your dominion increases slightly.
  • "Experience" : the caster gets 1000 experience.
  • "Fame" : same as "experience".
  • "Food" : you get 2 Cauldrons of Broth and 5 Endless Bags of Wine.
  • "Gems" : gives 25 of each gem type, including astral (that's 175 gems for the price of 100 astral), but no slaves.
  • "Gold" : gives you 3000 gold pieces.
  • "Hero" you get a random hero from any race. The hero shows up as a normal unit, but loses his magic skills since he is not a commander (if you cast gift of reason on him, he still has no spells available). You cannot ask for a specific hero however.
  • "Magic power" : the caster gets +1 to all magic levels, up to 10.
  • "No starve" : same as "food"
  • "Population" : brings more pop (+20%) in a random province you control.
  • "Power" : the caster gets +20 strength, +10 attack, +10 defence, +10 precision, and +50 hitpoints.
  • "(Pretender name)" : you get that pretender, with default magic and abilities (Daughter of the Land gets gems, Moloch gets imp, Ghost King gets ghosts, etc).
  • "Provinces" : a couple of provinces just convert to be yours.
  • "Strength" : same as "power"
  • "Supply" : same as "food"
  • "Troops" : same as "army"
  • "Weapons" : get a random weapon artifact.

At last patch there are 59 things that the wish spell is set to recognize.
(its real hard to hide things on linux) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
