Drones

Well Israel continues to surprise they seem to stay ahead of the curve, came up with ERA, world class ATGM missiles & defence systems & it seems the pioneers of miltary drones. They are the worlds major exporters.

Trying to find the article again seems Israel used the mass drone concept 7 or 8 years agothats getting air defence people worried. Used 30 odd cheap basic drones adapted as flying bombs, cheaper than a missile to target air defences & let planes follow on in safety.

DARPAS latest idea to maximise the potential of F22 & its poor payload is to use F22 as a detection platform.
It follows behind a remote operated F16 that caries air launched drones armed with AIM-120 missiles.
Engage in safety due to the extended range.

Re: Drones

VS opposition with low tech equipment (i.e. ISIS) I could see using cheap drones as flying bombs as being a pretty damn practical idea.

Re: Drones

Like they've already done in Iraq such as in Mosul but as bombers, because why would you want to lose a perfectly good drone otherwise?:capt:

Of course they're using them for artillery spotting and surveillance as well. Unfortunately they seem to evolve and than adopt as conditions warrant regularly.

Range (fuel, battery life) ... sometimes it's a one-way trip ...
