Re: Other games you've played that you like

My brother found this:

http://www.oocities.org/area51/rampart/1966/BTR.htm

I ended up using it in that weird New York-New Jersey War that I was talking about earlier. Could come in handy for...

Re: End date 2030, 100 years...

Sorry to get finicky, but isn't "rifled musket" an oxymoron? The term has been used to describe muzzle-loading rifles during the US civil war, but technically if the firearm's barrel is spirally...

Re: End date 2030, 100 years...

In 2030, there will probably still be people using Mosin-Nagants or Lee-Enfields in places like Donbass and Syria. Did anyone have a Brown Bess in World War I?

(some of TE Lawrence's people...

Re: Building height - editing

So, imagine a world where vehicular tunnels are impossible and they're all bridges instead? I can live with that. :)

(My grandfather hobo'd to New York City in the 1920's, made some money working...

Re: Building height - editing

What about tunnels?

I'm trying to make a map of Jersey City (don't ask) and I'm wondering what I should do with the likes of the Hudson Tubes and Holland Tunnel. I could make bridges out of them I...

Re: EU v NATO or instead of NATO

There were several scenarios from Jane's Fighters Anthology where something like this actually happened. Defending the Kingdom, IIRC.

Re: Israel

If you think their defensive R&D is impressive, you should see what they do in agriculture. All the best computer-control systems for pig and chicken farms come from Rotem.

Re: Realistic settings?

I screw around with the default training levels fairly often, and I've found reasons to mess with rout/rally (simulating die-hard fanatics or indifferent conscripts). A lot of scenarios designed for...

Re: Any more countries at any point possible?

My niece and I used to use the UN oob for various "Blue Helmets Coming To Take Our Guns And Put Microchips In Our Butts" scenarios that were popular among militia types back in the 90's...

Re: Z Fire

Not the only option the better option is to use artillery, then your MGs to cover any holes, maybe if needs be the odd squad.
As arty & MGs cover multiple hexes you get more bang for your points &...

Re: Z Fire

Z-fire for squads is very useful when you're playing with an army filled with lots and lots of low-quality infantry (Russia, China), especially if your enemy is significantly better than you...

Re: 10 Years

:D

Sounds like how my niece used to get mad at me for machinegunning all the AI hordes.

Like I think I said once before, people are still going to be playing Steel Panthers long after Don and...

Re: Helicopter armor

I don't use helos very often, but when I do I tend to use them the same way I use horse cavalry in WinSPWW2: fast, potent but fragile offensive force. You use them as a mobile reserve to deal with...

FWIW, my method lets you play around with individual units too. Ponder that for a moment.

Re: Map Edit of Generated Campaign Maps

Something I've been known to do is save on the deployment screen, move the .DAT and .CMT files from Saved Games to the Scenarios file, rename them appropriately (SpScn998 or whatever), edit them as I...

Re: Vehicles & Trees

I never saw the "woods" represented in the game as true virgin forest but more tame stuff with plenty of clearings, old logging trails and firebreaks that you could follow if you took your time.

Re: Chinese Nationalist "Warlord" LC

Battle two coming up when I'm done fuming. I was given a pretty awesome Special Delay over some exquisitely defensible terrain but for some reason the game died and now I can't get it back. Shucks....

Re: Question Re Red, Blue and Green OOBs

Yeah, Switzerland didn't really move from a 1918-type arrangement until the 1950's. They're the only ones I know of to still use RT-17s in WinSPMBT.

Speaking of which, is it possible for...

The first one in my case. I think this is the one where I once traded out all the German tanks for M-26 Pershings. Poles won anyway, mostly because I'd given them a cavalry unit consisting of...

Re: A Pinniped Sea Mammal

Are you implying that Sealion is an over-used AH plot?

Very well, what about Operation Tannenbaum instead? Instead of "the Germans swam across the channel and died" we can have "the Germans...

Re: Shotguns

I don't think I've ever seen a shotgun without any sights; all the ones I've ever owned had at least a simple bead on the front of the barrel.

My Browning Auto-5 has front and rear sights same as...
