You are reading it wrong :) As has been pointed out in this thread already a few times, a mage can use at most as many gems as he has levels in the path, and one of those gems can be used to increase...

This is the kind of info that is explicitly stated in the rulebook, and is also correctly stated in the rulebook ;) Read rulebook page 89 "A mage can only use as many gems as his current skill level...

No it doesn't. A mage casting a spell never goes above 200 fatigue hmiself. Effectively it thus does not matter if you cast a spell that causes 400 fatigue with a mage that is just able to cast it,...

TNN gets in CBM 1.82 the quickness song at Ench0. Buying the sacred 50g infantry makes no sense, but buying the 25 gold glamorous elite infantry makes much more sense :) Quickened they will rip apart...
