If you mean in real life, early WW2 HEAT rounds had a penetration 1.5 to 2.5 times their diameter. Modern HEAT is published as much as 7X Diameter.

The special battles give extra experience to your troops that participate. Otherwise they are just like a normal campaign battle other than the fact you do not get to repair and upgrade.

The game doesn't care which observer adjusts the fire, other than the initial one (for time of arrival) and LOS when the shells fall. The mission isn't "owned" by whatever observer called the shoot,...

The 1 damage point to flag aircraft as "used up" goes back to the original game, so 1995 or whatever.

The level bomber class shouldn't be getting added to arty overload - will be fixed.

The other way to tackle it might be to say "to heck with sticking, this scenario has way too much bogging terrain!" and turn breakdowns off in the preferences screen.
