Re: Pzf 3's are bad for invasions - also Apple M1 silicon

Using Crossover, it runs just fine for me on an M1 mac. Try messing with which windows version its emulating. Using an older version of Windows as the emulation version tends to work better for me...

Re: Win(e)SPMBT under Linux. (Ubuntu 7.10)

It seems wine 1.4 and 1.5 don't work at the moment. I haven't been able to try too much to find a workaround.

Re: Where are the gas artillery rounds?

I think, like a lot of WARPAC theories, the gas and chemicals were expected to be beneficial in the initial shock. They seem to have been very very focused on driving a resolution in a very short...

Re: urban fighting

In cities, dense forest, jungle etc, it is well worth simply picking a narrow objective and going for that, rather than trying to hit everything.

That sort of terrain overwhelmingly favours the...

Re: Suppression

Bear in mind that outlier results don't determine a trend.

Yeah, sometimes a unit can be paralyzed from one or two casualties but it happens quite rarely.

Re: Việt Nam Ðộc L*p Ðồng Minh Hội Struggle for Liberty!

Like your AAR.

You could view a meeting engagement as a quick spoiling attack, or an unexpected contact I suppose?

Re: Treebursts

To an extent it already is, i think. Troops moving in the open tends to take much heavier casualties from artillery.

Re: Hit percentage rant

I use snipers rather extensively in my current soviet campaign and they are well worth the cost in my opinion. I've managed several times to inflict casualties on a dug in enemy with sniper fire,...

Re: Win(e)SPMBT under Linux. (Ubuntu 7.10)

Wine versions 1.2 and 1.3 causes sound to disappear after a short amount of time. I'll see if I can sort out what the problem is, and if it's easily correctable.

Re: Reflections. 1947 USSR campaign

As an aside, the 57mm's earned their keep many times over. I'll post a brief report of the following battle tomorrow once I've slept.

Soviet sniper rifle before SVD ?

In the time frame before the Dragunov rifle was introduced, what was the snipers weapon in the Red Army?

Did they retain scoped Nagant rifles? Scoped SKS or something different?

Thanks in...

Re: Reflections. 1947 USSR campaign

We had barely finished celebrations for new years, such as they were, before orders came down. The British were attacking in the Ruhr, and we had to stop them. Somehow the attack had escaped anyones...

Re: point tally

One side effect is, if the enemy morale is "broken", and you hold all VP hexes, the game can be forced to end before the turn limit runs out.

Reflections. 1947 USSR campaign

Last night I made it to 1947 in my on-going campaign.

Some changes and upheavals in my core. Following advice given here, I added a section of 3 57mm guns to each infantry company. Their primary...

Re: Counter-Battery Process?

It'd be nice if off map batteries had some random variable in determining how far "off map" they are located. A battery won't always be located at the absolute furthest possible distance from the...

Re: distance for company CO and the battalion CO

If he has radio contact, won't he rally units in any event?
Obviously that can be heavily dependent on nationality and year.

yeah, that would be very nice. I like it to be still randomly generated, just with a longer option.

"long game" option

Would it be possible to have a game option to increase game lenghts by a factor? Maybe +25% or so.

It would be nice to have set in campaigns, similar to other "preference" options, such as "AI...

Re: Reflections. 1946 USSR campaign

Yeah, that makes sense. I'll try it on and we'll see how it fares. Since one of the sections will have 2 LMG's still, it should help make up for the lack of 1 sections rifles.. I hope :)

Re: Reflections. 1946 USSR campaign

I do try to advance fairly closely to the enemy with my foot troopers. Between 1 section per platoon or 1 platoon per company, which would make more sense to you?

They all have trucks right now,...
