Flaming weapons conflict somewhat with magic weapons that have AoE like coldbrand, Ember and so on. I can't remember which effect takes priority - the item's or the bless'. Of course, it only occurs...

In a MA Bandar log SP game, I had great fun with markatas (+50 stealth) carrying stone idols. They never got found out, even in capitals.

+50 is just awesome.

If you want to take out commanders, "Fire archers" is probably what you want since, as Shovah pointed out, commanders cannot be targeted specifically.

Commander are usually at the rear not far...

Regarding the bad scales, it is a necessary evil to get a stronger bless. As is taking an imprisoned pretender. But you can't have it all ...

Mind you, many bless nations can take some bad scales...

I have tried several nations (bless and not bless) in different eras. Dual bless is always powerful but to really benefit from it you need to be able to recruit lots of sacreds, so non-capital only...

CBM actually IS split up that way. The version I use is compatible with 3.10, and I currently use it in a SP game where it changes the scales and the gods. It can also change the spells, the units...

I believe the age increases by 1 every winter. At least, disease because of old age occurs in winter (keep you old mage home during winter if you have a growth dominion).

At 30%, all the arrows in the wings will fail to do damage.
At 20%, some arrow in the wings will do damage (say, they hit the bone...

Or maybe the enemy doesn't come within range of your more powerful spells. Happens a lot if the mages are placed at the very back of the battlefield.

Either bring your mages closer to the front...
