Re: m551 sheridan

Am I correct in assuming this applies to UC-197 (Rivercraft) and similar Unit Class units as well?

Re: Persistant problem with airborne units

Just like real life ... sometimes helos live up to their "fragile" reputation, and others they're flying tanks.

Speaking of which .. try damaging an Mi-24 Hind sometime.

Re: m551 sheridan

Didn't realize putting a WC-4 weapon in weapon slot #4 in a vehicle over-rode the "fixed bow" restrictions ... handy.
Thanks!

Re: APC Development and related topics.

Since WinSPMBT treats bunkers as armored units it means any AT weapon is a "Bunker Buster" assuming it has enough armor pen.

This is a bit of a problem at times as VS any opponent with lots of...

Re: APC Development and related topics.

Looks like I need to revise the dates on my LAV-ATA2 (currently 2015).
Thanks.

Re: thermal imaging...

I regularly use SEAD aircraft as I regularly play the USMC which relies HEAVILY on air support and helos. I usually find that a single SEAD aircraft is sufficient to deal with opposition radar...

Re: thermal imaging...

Machineguns also do wonders for suppression of infantry/armor as well.

A while back Don sent me a WW II scenario (USMC vs Japan) to test. The US side had swarms (by USMC standards) of M5 light...

Re: thermal imaging...

Training and experience are big factors in the game, as is weaponry.

Factors concerning vision/spotting are:

Movement - Stationary units are harder to spot and have a better chance to spot...

Re: thermal imaging...

The "key" to beating an enemy with better vision then yours is use the terrain to limit their opportunities to fire beyond the range you can see. Hide behind hills, in woods, behind buildings,...

Re: Counter battery fire question

What's "fun" is from time-to-time the AI will counter-battery one of my units that just fired a counter-battery on one of theirs. Never seen this go to a 3rd level tho, would be rather amusing if it...

Re: Counter battery fire question

Since I frequently make USMC scenarios, and they rely heavily on close air support, and aircraft don't perform counter-battery, I frequently put an artillery/rocket battery in my scenarios and set...

Re: Questions Regarding Scenario Development

Not entirely true.
If during scenario design you put a vehicle aboard an aircraft the a crew will be created. During the scenario you can have the crew re-man the vehicle. It's a "bit" fiddly, but...

Re: Russian Invasion of the Baltic States

Unless the "Soviet" (yes I used that work on purpose) mindset has changed since the 1970's when I was in the Intelligence business they're big believers in "Fait Accompli", do something quickly then...

Re: Jets & Planes but no UAV's here.

I'd guess a lot of that has to do with the way Jarheads do business. They're more use to looking for their own solutions then waiting for someone else to come up with one.

And Happy Holidays to...

I was getting some pop-ups for a porn/dating site yesterday when I opened these forums, seems to be fixed today.

BUT I'd just updated to the new version of Firefox so I assumed the problem was...

Re: Will China and Russia Make U.S. F-22 and F-35 Stealth Fighters Obsolete?

I once saw a Dragon (wire guided ATGM) gunner use the wire to his advantage by firing over obstacle and hitting something behind it. Admittedly this is something only an expert could probably do,...

Re: Korea 2018

WinSPMBT doesn't include support organizations because they're "combat insignificant" in a direct sense (like a tank or infantry squad).

Re: Infantry Served Weapons and Organization.

Don't think this will come to much.

There are 2xSMAWs per Rifle Platoon already, so two of the three Rifle Squads already have a bunker buster/AT weapon the third squad often winds up with a...

Why bother with aircraft?

Re: Acceptable US Casualties Against 3rd World Armies

Easy enough to do for your own purposes.

Just go into the editor and double, triple, whatever, the cost of units.

I've done the opposite in one scenario I tested. Since you can't have a...

Re: Bradley formations

Swamps not woods.
Filled with pits and bogs impossible to navigate so you just do the best you can. And you never come out smelling good.

Re: Bradley formations

Sound similar to the LAV-25.
Technically it can carry 3 crew + 6 passengers, but rarely carries more then 4 passengers because the 2 "extra" men mean there's no room for "little" things like...

Re: Bradley formations

Could you ask the Bradley drive about the typical TO&E of the dismounts?

I'm REALLY curious:
1) How many are carried per vehicle.
2) How many M240s per platoon.
3) How many Javelin ATGMs per...

I almost always turn off some of the weapons on aircraft AFTER the first airstrike of the game.

As Don says, one point of damage and they RTB and the first (or first couple) airstrikes face the...
