Re: Infantry LMGs

DRG, I'll take that seriously. It'll be an interesting side-project, and I've got just enough of an OCD touch for it to sound worthwhile. Do you want it as a Google spreadsheet, or OBAT files, or...

Re: Infantry LMGs

I see that, and I'd still disagree with some variables (scoped, almost marksman-like M27 being less accurate than an unscoped RPK-74, and on par with an M14A1 SAW?), but in general I can live with...

Re: APC Development and related topics.

Here's the best source I can find on it, from Breaking Defense:

"Upgunning the Europe-based Second Cavalry Regiment...

Infantry LMGs

Is there a set rationale for statting out infantry support weapons the way you did? Some choices I can understand--the MG3's awesome rate of fire earning it an HE rating of 10--but others aren't easy...

Re: APC Development and related topics.

Oh. I didn't see the "Stryker Platoon +" formation. That does help, although manually assembling mechanized squads isn't going to be fun.

Incidentally, I went and did a bit of Googling, and found:...

Re: APC Development and related topics.

I have a question on the new Stryker Dragoon and the way it's implemented in v11.

Namely, why was it hived off into an entirely new formation? From what I've read, the intention is that there are...

IT-1 Missile Tanks

I've done a few quick pings through the forums and got nothing back, so it seemed appropriate to start up a new thread for it, with the rationale of "equipment detail".

The IT-1 missile tank,...

Re: Helicopter armor

Yeah, terrain masking is incredibly important; swarm of MANPADS are terrible, terrible things to see. 8 or 10 Strela-2Ms rising from the trees are a horrible if familiar sight before I learned the...

Re: Helicopter armor

I'd generally agree, up to a point. If my armored helis start coming under fire from Iglas and Shilkas (or Stingers and Vulcans), I'd expect them to die off; less so for rifle-caliber AAMGs.

Re: Cross-OBAT issue: S-60 57mm AA gun

17 pen is pretty good for sabot, but 11 to 12 is the APCBC penetration of WWII-era AT guns, and it seems like a fairly reasonable stat. Perhaps lower, since it's APHE instead of APCBC.

Cross-OBAT issue: S-60 57mm AA gun

Across many OBATs: the Russian 57mm S-60 cannon is modeled with 17 penetration. This seems excessive for an AA gun. I can't find any source to validate that; nor did the Russians develop an APDS...

Re: Have cluster munitions become less effective?

Mostly 10-ish for artillery-launched ammunition, I believe. Top-mounted reactive armor does a decently good job against it.

Re: Helicopter armor

Hey, now, the discussion did take a detour on the whole "evasive maneuvers" issue and another one on whether or not helis would retreat when damaged or not. For all intents and purposes there were...

Re: North Korea OOB

Relatively minor addition: add in a MD-500 variant armed with Susang Po missiles. They were publicly displayed (http://theaviationist.com/2013/07/30/dprk-h500e/#.UhWZo8u9KSN) on parade a few months...

Re: Soviet Army 1989, Category C

I would think the 100mm AT guns would be part of the equipment for the older divisions, but the Kastet and Kan missiles would not be. I play with a modified Orbat to reflect that fact. Try cloning...

Re: Helicopter armor

I'm fine with helis retreating if they take damage; in that case, then, it looks like the focus will be on fine-tuning the code for helicopter armor so that they don't take damage from small arms so...

Re: Helicopter armor

I can see the issue with that, yes, but unarmored helis, which are most of them, are going to take damage anyway, and armored helis are notoriously difficult to bring down with squad weapons. There...

Yeah, I get it. I was answering the questions Imp posted, to wit: (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showpost.php?p=823323&postcount=9)

That sounded like he was going into their evasive maneuver...

Re: Helicopter armor

re: Imp: my issue isn't that armored gunships take damage on occasion and retreat. It's that, when they are hit by low-caliber weapons, they will take damage most of the time, and it's very rare that...

Re: Helicopter armor

re: Imp: yeah, that sounds logical, but the "evasive maneuvers" behaviour reflects that. If they start taking too much fire they bob and weave. And I don't doubt that a good burst of 7.62 can hurt a...

Helicopter armor

Without going into the black-box stuff that you can't legally talk about, what can you tell me about how helicopter armor is supposed to work? I ask because losing Hinds against 7.62mm AA guns at...

Re: APC Development and related topics.

I'm sorry to nitpick, and I'll try to clarify, but: none of those articles address the problem with the Stryker vehicles. They cover future upgraded versions, yes, and I'll be looking forward to...

Re: APC Development and related topics.

Speaking of the Stryker, does the newest (upcoming) version implement an autocannon version of its M2 Browning? As I understand it, all versions of the Stryker use a CROWS weapons mount instead of...
