Re: Russian Tanks

"This is rapidly returning to "political" stuff that has no place in this forum, which is to discuss the WinSPMBT game."

Politics is war without bloodshed while war is politics with bloodshed....

Re: Russian Tanks

"so other NATO states, (all NATO states except UK/US) had no interests in that region"

Factually inaccurate, sir. The Russian willingness to use gas supplies for political leverage has made a...

Re: Russian Tanks

I sort of agree. It was a big, short term win for Russia, not because it stabilized anything. Attacks on Russians are still happening in the Caucasus. In the long run, it will seriously damage...

Re: Looking for an opponent

500 points won't buy a modern MBT. So you will most surely be using infantry. Those won't be very modern infantry, either. As far as playing capture the flag, the not so Intelligent AI (AAI?...

Re: Looking for an opponent

A lot of new players think that smaller maps and lower force level make the game less complex. Actually, the reverse is true. Like the combat SP emulates, the victor is the one making the fewest...

Re: Looking for an opponent

We got a hotseat club started here in Memphis back in the mid 90's (about a year or so after SP was officially released) by putting up 3x5 cards out at the local military base (Millington) PX. Not...

Re: Getting an air-assault army to work

I sure botched that explanation. Let me suck down another cup of coffee and see if I can post an answer that makes sense. Flying in trail is the key, I just have to figure out how to explain the...

Re: Getting an air-assault army to work

I like to use Air Mobile forces as either a reserve or as commandos. As a reserve, you normally wouldn't commit them until after you have had a chance to locate your opponents AD. As commando's you...

Re: PBEM Ground Rules

I'm getting that done to me now. I'm playing the Soviets on the Grosspeterdorf map, which is a town that is the center of the road net and a choke point. I got there firstest but not with the...

Re: PBEM Ground Rules

I use 'No plotting artillery until first move turn' which has the same effect as Gila's suggestion.[/QUOTE]

Counting hexes is a goood idea at any point in the game, not just turn zero. My problem...

Re: PBeM game length (in real time)?

I have a drill that I use to keep track of the plot as much as possible for a game with this many variables. Of course, that makes me vulnerable to OODA looping. I'm pretty predictable for the...

Re: PBeM game length (in real time)?

I use the 10-day rule. I figure that 10 days go by without any commo from my opponent either RL has bit him on the arse or he isn't having fun any more. Since I play for fun and I won't have any...

Re: PBeM game length (in real time)?

I did a total of 10 turns today, spread over 4 opponents. About normal.

Re: winspmbt 5.0 ghost wish

* South Ossetia
* Georgia
* Venezuela

Couldn't these be done with the generic red units? IIRC, the red 'country' units use a Standard Soviet OOB. I could be wrong about that, I'm not much of...

Re: Bringing down a concrete bridge.

IIRC, you get your engineer next to the bridge and use the area fire button on the Bridge hex. Not sure if the 'w' key works under those conditions. I seem to remember that it does.
A cheap gamey...

Re: WinSPMBT v4.5 Tourney Players

Build it and they will come, but ONLY if they know you built it.
Did you 'market' the idea that you were going to have a tourney?
I remember at the blitz, which has hundreds of active SP players,...
