Re: FASCAM Issue

I've used FASCAM on occasion.
It behaves just like any other off-map artillery.

Re: MBT's

Or trying to separate active vs reserve unit equipment. Does a reserve unit not having X piece of gear count as not being FOC?

Re: effectiveness of infantry vs armor in wooded area?

Some time back I played someone's Norway VS Russia scenario where Russian active defense measures made Norwegian ATGMs all but useless. HOWEVER, in WinSPMBT active measures have limited charges...

Re: Poland OOB

The other issue that needs to be considered is the number of slots available in formations.

Sometimes you find you have to cut or combine small units (i.e. two MG teams combined into a 2-gun...

Re: Interesting read

Quite a few, they're called psychopaths.

A good many of the most successful corporate executives are psychopaths (or sociopaths). Your classic yuppie, yay me, F everyone else.

Re: MBT's

Holding off on this till mid 2021 ... they can still change their minds, not like it hasn't happened (often) before.

Re: MBT's

15 to a squad, currently 13, they were considering 12 (with a 3-man HQ team vs the current 1, i.e. Squad Leader).

A platoon is 3x Squads + a HQ element (usually 4-man).

Re: Help with setup

I'd suggest a number of off map MLRS (with mostly HE) on turn 1 (edit their ROF so they empty themselves turn 1) to represent the typical Russian pre assault barrage.

Re: Us oob

You might have better luck convincing the USAF they can't win a war (other then WW III) with fighter and bombers.

Or maybe not ...

Re: Us oob

I can see uses for parachute infantry, glider weapons/light vehicle/supply carriers, and helo transport.

I don't see another "Market Garden" or anything similar. Smaller scale operations to seize...

Re: Jets & Planes but no UAV's here.

The same reason the US Navy and USMC are fond of two engine aircraft. REALLY hard to swim 500km back to your carrier.

However, modern jet engines are pretty reliable so that's not as big an issue...

Re: Jets & Planes but no UAV's here.

I stand corrected ... as of the time the weapons load layout was published (2018) it was due to be phased out.
Things change.

The current F-35 chart.

The AGM-65 Maverick is not shown because it's being phased out. But it's replacement is not in the...

Re: MBT's

I can see where the 3-man Fire Team might be a "good" idea due to the ACVs smaller passenger capacity BUT the standard 4-man team allows for 2x "Buddy Teams" and ye olde pup tent takes two halves so...

Re: Navy's Future Light Amphibious Ship

Basically this thing looks like a modified LCI turned into an large LCM.

Maybe create a modernized LST so it can carry vehicles/cargo as well as troops, makes it more...

Re: Navy's Future Light Amphibious Ship

This "new ship" is really:

"The light amphibious warship will itself act as a connector -- a "ruggedized beaching craft," as one senior Navy official put it -- that can travel longer distances...

Re: Interesting read

Recon is frequently the key to success.

This is where drones, of any size, excel. I think being able to effectively counter opposition drones is a vital key to the modern battlefield. And one...

Re: Jets & Planes but no UAV's here.

Typically USMC Reserve units will "fill in" at about company level. So an active duty battalion that's undermanned will fold it's three companies into two then add a reserve company. The same...

Re: US Army Platoon Battle Buddy Organization

Radio is used for two things.
The first digit is for comm, the second is unit rarity.
For example 90 is pretty much default for tanks, they almost always have a radio and are the standard unit. ...

Re: US Army Platoon Battle Buddy Organization

I use the Fire Team (4-man) formation in the USMC OOB fairly often. Works pretty well when you need to cover a wide frontage.

Keep in mind those 2-man buddy teams should be size 0, makes them...

Re: Historical Design Notes Thread

MANY years ago I did a classified brief on the Soviet Naval Infantry. And since I don't remember much of what I said I guess I'm not much of a security risk anymore

Re: MBT's

I never meant to imply it was easy, merely that mixing US and non-US units in the Green OOB shouldn't be an issue.

More then most around here I know how much "fun" OOB changes are.

For those...
