Re: High level design thoughts

Very well said sir, I think you are onto something by mentioning more attention to the fiction and resilience of a good story as well as an RPG element to the game universe.

I too am not swayed so...

Re: Welcome Star Legacy Development Group!

Sounds like a promising idea.

I just hope this doesn't turn into a spreadsheets in space game, because those I can't really stand anymore, hence why I never could get hooked on SEIV or SEV....

Re: Welcome Star Legacy Development Group!

This sounds like an intriguing idea to planet and resource management.

What I want to know is whether a players empire will have autonomous and self sufficient planet resources, ie will they be...

Re: High level design thoughts

I find it interesting to have a point value system for science and other tech or ship/building components. Am I to assume Star Legacy will have a similar customisation screen available ala GSB for...

Re: High level design thoughts

Turn based is the way to do it if there are huge handicaps on gfx. And especially since I doubt a realtime effort with such a small budget will be upto speed. No disrespect at the wonderful creative...

Re: High level design thoughts

Personally I would prefer smaller empires of no more than a dozen to 20 or so star systems each (total amount per galaxy maybe less than 200 or upto 150) with many planets and detailed variety of...

Re: Combat Mechanics

I am also with you on the GSB type combat resolution. I think anything that doesn't detract from the real substance to this game is a positive thing. Combat for Turn Based games is always a sticky...

Re: Combat Mechanics

I have to agree with Gregstorm on this one. If the fans here have no idea how this game will be presented, then it makes picking and choosing the basic combat system difficult to say the least.

Re: Combat Mechanics

I have great faith in the makers of SL to come up with a worthy game. But I would hate to see some terribly painful and overly complex turn based system that bleeds all the fun and excitement out of...

Re: Combat Mechanics

Well then may I suggest going the route of small budget space combat 2d realtime strategy game Gratuituous Space Battles? (http://www.positech.co.uk/gratuitousspacebattles/) It is neither overly...

Re: Combat Mechanics

Once upon a time (1998) there was a marvellous game called Decent: Freespace. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GTD_Galatea) In fact it was so well developed and groundbreaking that the following year...

I am actually currently playing Armada 2526, And I must say it has a way of growing on you. But maybe because I have had so little time to figure out its nuances. I am not sure if it would hold my...

Re: Off Topic Thread

Great news Ed Kolis! This is music to my ears. Finally a logarithmic scale system integrated with an epic space strategy game :)

I don't think it has ever been done before but mind you I will be...

Re: Planets and Resources

Thats precisely what I was hoping for mate! And you made a solid point that wars could in fact start this way. Imagine competing races with different habitat requirements laying waste to a pristine...

I was also intruiged by multiple races colonising one world. It is an intersting concept. I would do with allies only, but also having the option of underground colonies if the civilization in...

Ok I have a topic of sorts, given this game centres on planet colonisation, thoughts of Avatar and planet Pandora come to mind, hehe.

In recent years the discovery of exoplanets (planets outside...

Re: Ship Talk

I was under the impression that this game will have a 2D style of battle system.

It does make sense to makes things more simplistic in the interests of maintaining acheivable game dynamics...

Re: Planets and Resources

There seems to be several ways to approach planets and resources. As some have suggested it can be planet focused or star system focused where the solar system itself is your playground; budding with...

Re: Welcome Star Legacy Development Group!

Re: Welcome Star Legacy Development Group!

I think the pitfalls to making such an overcomplicated system for the purposes of balancing turn based moves versus realtime ones are obvious. CPUs of today cant handle the type of ambitious gaming...

Re: Welcome Star Legacy Development Group!

I agree its insane to run a game like CIV IV as a multiplayer as is. Its just crazy having to wait for the other person to resolve his turns within a given time limit. Real time is the way to go, you...
