Re: MBT's

Currently each USMC Division has one (yes one) tank battalion.

The "problem" is they're big and HEAVY, thus hard to transport. None of the LCMs can carry one, the WW II LSTs (Landing Ship Tank)...

Re: WW3: Not so welcome

Mmmmmm ...

As a programmer myself (tho I'm not familiar with WinSPMBTs source code) you could give units in the same formation a "command radius" and if they start to outrun the slowest unit in...

Wink Re: WW3: Not so welcome

DEFINITELY reminds me of an early WW II scenario.

The T-14s (and largely T-15s) are essentially immune to tank and ATGM fire so you have to wait till they enter towns/woods and flank or rear shot...

Re: APC Development and related topics.

We also have the advantage of dealing with shorter future time frames then we did. Even with the extension to 2025 we're only looking a few years into the future.

Re: APC Development and related topics.

Apparently the USMC decided to cancel the ACV1.2 (a fully tracked, more seaworthy variant of the ACV1.1) due to the ACV1.1 being able to handle sea-state 3 conditions (the current AAV can handle sea...

Re: WW3: Not so welcome

Rather "amusing" watching the Challengers and Armatas bounce shells off each other. I'm not far into it but I'm starting to wonder if ammo is going to become a serious problem.

Re: Patriot SAM poor performance

I use aircraft a LOT.
If you try to use aircraft in the first 3-5 turns you're just begging to get them shot up if not down. I use helos in the early turns to expose AA (use TOWs/Hellfires/rockets...

Re: Patriot SAM poor performance

Yep.
Did Gulf I myself and until a week or so before the ground phase kicked off I was expecting 50ish% casualties from mostly the chemical threat. But luckily I was working Intel at the time and...

Re: Patriot SAM poor performance

Almost all AA missiles (air or ground launched) have a tiny radar detonator in them. They rarely actually hit their target, they just get "close enough" and explode sending shrapnel all over. ...

Re: Patriot SAM poor performance

Nope.

It means the missile detonated close enough to the aircraft, and fragments did enough damage to cause the pilot to say "Screw this, another one of those I'm gonna get shot down!"

Re: SP and SPAA Developments

The problem with artillery/guns is the necessary case thickness (durability) to withstand explosive acceleration limits the amount of explosive each shell can have. Additionally if traveling 1500km...

Re: Patriot SAM poor performance

The accuracy of the Patriot during Gulf I was HIGHLY exaggerated. It was really more like 10-25% vs the SCUDs.

VS aircraft, what it was designed for, it's undoubtedly better. But in reality SAMs...

Re: WW3 NATO vs WARPAC: What would have happened?

This is my take as well.
Both sides knew that it wouldn't stay conventional and neither wanted to suffer the consequences of total (i.e. nuclear) war.

Re: WW3 NATO vs WARPAC: What would have happened?

I really have to wonder how long the Soviets could maintain air superiority or parity. While their defenses would severely limit deep strikes I think their front lines would get hammered after the...

Re: Ammo carriers

Basically there are 3 "levels" of ammo resupply.

Crates ( "Container" in MBT, "Canister" in WW2 )
Pretty much small arms only, lowest resupply rate (pretty much in same hex)

Vehicles/boats...

Re: Hue city

P.S.

Don't expect this mini-campaign anytime soon. I'm currently "enjoying" radiation therapy for cancer so not up to anything as involved/intricate as this is going to be.

Re: Hue city

True!

But what concerns me is that with the news footage I've watched from the actual events I've seen essentially zero indication that the NVA had RPGs, mortars, AT-guns, or even HMGs (12/14mm). ...
