Re: Flak issue

Probably true, but then battles would last much longer. Who wants to spend hours of real time playing out "realistic" platoon or company engagements lasting maybe 100 turns or more? And never mind...

Re: Snowdrifts

For winter scenarios the importance of maintaining vehicle mobility (including tanks) is magnified. Which is why any off-road movement should be carefully plotted in advance.

Winter assaults...

Re: AA Defense

Feels good doesn't it? Nothing like challenging scenarios to bring out the best in a player regardless of experience.

Had a gander at Mack's videos. Seems he benefited from your advice and got a...

Re: Mines!, IEDs, Booby Traps, and other nasty things

Just noticed in a WW2 LC scenario a booby trap can't be fired at (at least by a British pioneer with an SMG and .303 Bren). It's on a road that cuts through mud and rough so rather annoying. Aside...

Re: AA Defense

A bit OT but it's interesting that Vietnam has difficulty winning this. Usually when the AI attacks (here as China) it hurls itself willy-nilly upon the foe without regard for casualties. And since...

Re: AA Defense

There's no way "to conduct a proper AA defense" beyond making sure your AA assets are in decent defensive terrain (or dug in) with clear lines of fire to all directions above your units while being...

Re: Odd Platoon Arty Spotting

Many thanks Scorpio. That explains everything since the "0" leaders of those platoons were indeed killed earlier as their squads were wiped out. Yet another mystery solved. Cheers!

Odd Platoon Arty Spotting

In a current LC battle some of my platoons use squads other than the platoon leader's for arty spotting. In this save note that squads K2, L1, M2, P3, R3, V1 and AF1 can call in or shift fire...

Stream Setup

What happens if you start a generated (campaign) battle with units deployed in streams? Will they be able to move out normally or will they be stuck for the rest of the scenario? Thanks (and sorry...

Re: Aircraft scoring issue

Pleased to report that in a recent WW2 LC battle 3 Bf109-6Gs which had the temerity to attack my precious Churchills were shot down. This time the one that crashed off-map returned the full 57...

Re: LOS and Z fire under v12

BANG! Just kidding.

Actually my experience with v12 is that z-fire through non-blocking terrain is as before, effectively unlimited within constraints of relative elevation and weapons range. IOW...

Re: WinSPWW2 V12 ( 2019 ) Upgrade

Ach, this discussion has been going on for years, if not decades. For a relatively recent thread (2016) on this topic check the link below.

Yes, the new rule will make it more difficult to attack,...

Re: Will Japanese soldiers fight to the end?

The battle for Iwo Jima lasted 5 weeks and featured a massive aerial and naval pre-bombardment to the extent that Chester Nimitz is quoted saying "Well, this will be easy. The Japanese will surrender...

Re: Will Japanese soldiers fight to the end?

Thanks guys. Forgot to mention this was a delay battle (since corrected) and was already arty overloaded at 17% force value with a 43-point penalty. Still, I'd been overloaded in previous defensive...

Re: Will Japanese soldiers fight to the end?

Really. In a just-completed British LC delay scenario I decided to take a break from North Africa to see what Japanese troops were like during their flood tide of conquest.

It was April 1942 in...

Re: AP vs Bunker/Pillboxes

Thanks for the explications folks. They've convinced me to drop any objections to combat results with bunkers. Carry on and have a great day. Cheers!

Re: AP vs Bunker/Pillboxes

There's no opening at the side or rear. How can AP rounds with max pen of 7 get through 20cm of steel at 4 or 500 meters with one or two shots each? Infantry was not a factor.

Re: AP vs Bunker/Pillboxes

Sorry to be a pain about this but in a just-completed battle as Brits vs Italians in late 1940 a couple Matilda IIs with max PEN of 7, no APCR, took out bunkers from the side and rear with armor...

Re: Daunted by Long Campaign force selection

OK so in a British LC (40 battles starting April 1940) two 60-pounder troops were bought as part of the core, hoping to upgrade one or both to longer-range off-map artillery for CB. Couldn't find a...

Re: AP Penetration Ratings

Yes. Just go to AP Calc, accessible through Game Options at startup under Utilities. There it shows you precise penetration values at various ranges for particular kinds of guns and ammo. You'll note...

Re: Skittish VH Scenario #470

Many thanks Don for your kind attention and precise explication. For something so relatively minor you've gone far beyond the call of duty. Very surprising to see what the real "culprit" was.

Exclamation Skittish VH Scenario #470

In Ts4EVER's Scenario #470, Bazooka Town, hex #31,12, a wood building, is a 100-point objective that's in German hands before the battle. Yet after first moving a tank into it, then an engineer...
