Re: AP vs Bunker/Pillboxes

FWIW in a current LC battle as Germans a platoon of 5 Panthers kept blasting a couple Russian pillboxes with 30 or 40 shots each from the flank w/o effect save suppression. It wasn't 'til the...

Re: Aircraft scoring issue

Same thing happened to me in a WW2 campaign battle. A Yak with 16 damage did not go down on the map after receiving the fatal hit maybe 10 hexes from the map edge. It showed as "destroyed" on the...

Re: Map scale

OK, so unit speeds are overstated (mine are in mph) given the time frame. Infantry moving 6 hexes in 3 minutes (reported at 6 mph) are actually going somewhat less than 4 mph, varying on whether...

Re: Red Dawn #263 Antonito

FWIW perching a friendly on an abandoned enemy unit only gives points for crew casualties, even though it's later marked "destroyed" on the end-of-contest map and in the battle results roster....

Re: Counter battery fire question

Well yeah. If artillery have different ranges then they ain't equal. How could they be?

Re: Vistula crossing

A stupendous battle with concise, informative write-up. Congratulations on the DV.

BTW how long in RL terms did this one take? The Bear Strikes (WP) took me about 15 hours. You had about twice as...

Armored Onslaught: The Bear Strikes (WP)

This is an AAR concerning Scenario #179, a hypothetical motorized Soviet infantry regiment assault supported by strong armor, artillery and air assets against (initially) West German...

Re: Any Wreck Limit to Vision?

Yeah. It's such a game-changer that old scenarios or campaigns can play out in drastically different ways. Defenders can't depend on screening themselves from hordes of armor by picking off lead...

Re: thermal imaging...

--Spoiler Alert--

Just finished it myself, cutting the ratio for a marginal too close for comfort (6,200:12,740). Had the 3 Leopards taking pothots at a T-80 sticking its snout out from...

Re: thermal imaging...

Hinds may be hard to kill but now they take damage from Stingers, even from the front. Already had one chased off the map with a point of damage from one. Seems like the last patch made them more...

Re: thermal imaging...

Thanks folks. Your solutions sound pretty sensible, although easier said than done. What may have thrown me off is that in this scenario pounding the ridge with arty can be counterproductive. While...

Re: thermal imaging...

--Spoiler Alert--

Really. If you want a challenging scenario in which the enemy have TI and you don't try #179, The Bear Strikes (WP), a Soviet assault battle. Tried it several times; even after...

Re: Question on infantry SAMs

A bit off-topic, but in WINSP are targets moving ACROSS the firing unit's LOS more difficult to hit than those moving directly towards or away from them? My impression was that target size. speed and...

Re: Any Wreck Limit to Vision?

Thanks guys. The "flaming wreck" icon clears up any ambiguity. None appeared in the WW2 scenario mentioned above but showed up in an ongoing MBT battle. Certainly not all, or even most tanks marked...

Re: Any Wreck Limit to Vision?

Fair enough. Yet it will take some getting used to. Imagine going from an environment where single wrecks block all unassisted LOS to where five wrecks in successive hexes may not block it at all....

Any Wreck Limit to Vision?

Reason I ask is 'cuz there seems to be almost unlimited vision through wrecks. In this example (from Scenario 94 with visibility of 48) four wrecks do not block LOS between the R-35 and the T-34s at...

Re: AP vs Bunker/Pillboxes

It was in Kurland, Latvia in October of '44. The armor rating for the PBs was (front, side rear):

Hull-10, 20, 22
Turret-3, 22, 24

Only one tank definitely had a side/rear shot from just...

Re: AP vs Bunker/Pillboxes

Sorry again to resurrect an old thread, but in a Russian LC battle T-34/85s with max pen of 16 took out two pillboxes with side and rear thickness of 22 on the first or second shot. Not that I'm...

Nice going. Please give my regards to Hauptmann Schaub for a job well done. He must be extremely relieved to have gotten out of the Normandy and Fatherland defense campaigns unscathed, what with the...

Re: Optional game rules

Couple questions:

1) Can infantry advance toward tanks or other AFVs at the risk getting shredded? This will soak up shots but not with impunity.

2) What do you mean by "support units" in...

LC Large Infantry Squads

The Russians start out with 13-man infantry squads for Barbarossa (June '41).

1) Do these squads automatically downsize to 10 men later on, or must that be done manually with the "Change"...
