Oh, this is making me so confused! I know I saw some kind of Rlyeh hero in a Death Match just a few days ago. Is it just the AI that can send aquatics? There's a pic of a triton lord in the arena here:

I cannot send any aquatic or immobile unit in my testing now. You do not need hands, a White Bull was fine.
Edit: Okay, I'm not nuts. Here's a new one. But I didn't send it, the AI did. So maybe only the AI can submit aquatics with no Fish Amulet to the deathmatch. How unfair
